Red Wine vs. Breast Cancer

It’s been shown that consumption of alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer; however, this is not the case for red wine. A new study by Dr. Shufelt et al. published in Journal of Women’s Health last month shows that red wine decreases the amount of Estrogen and fights against breast cancer. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) prevent the conversion of androgens to estrogen and occur naturally in grapes, grape juice, and red, but not white wine. Estrogen is also associated with increases in the risk of breast cancer.
