7 Tips for Keeping Your Hands Young and Feminine

You work out to keep your body looking young, feminine and fantastic. But what about your hands? Does the very fact that you train with weights mean that your hands are going to end up as a callused, hardened mess? Not if you know how to look after them. In this article we’ll consider 5 ways to keep your hands young and feminine while still allowing them to do their job in the gym.

7 Tips for Keeping Your Hands Young and Feminine

Use a Pumice Stone

A pumice stone is a great way to get your hands soft and to prevent the formation of large calluses, especially at the base of the fingers. At least once per week you should use a pumice stone to gently rub over any potential blister or callus areas. You should do this after you have had a bath or a shower. Spend a few minutes working on each hand.

Use a Callus Remover

If you are a regular gym goer, then you will have to deal with calluses at some point. You can pick up a cheap but effective callus remover from your local drug store. It features a built-in razor blade which allows you to safely remove a callus without ripping it open. Doing so will allow you to transform hardened, rough hands into smooth, feminine ones. Again, you should soften your hands with a shower or bath before using a callus remover.

Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are a very effective, completely natural way to ensure that your hands remain soft and sensual. Lavender, geranium and rose are excellent for nourishing the skin on your hands, while the combination of lavender and chamomile will help you to treat the scrapes and calluses that come from gripping the bar in the gym.

Using an essential oil exfoliating scrub is a sure-fire way to ensure that your hands remain healthy. Here is a scrub that you can use to remove dead skin cells and ensure that your hands are able to take in life giving nutrients:

Combine one tablespoon of coconut oil, three drops of frankincense, two drops of lemon and one tablespoon of sea salt. Mix well, then rub this scrub onto your hands. Then simply rinse it off.

As your hands age, collagen and elastin become less plentiful. This can lead to the onset of wrinkles, with your skin becoming tighter. Exposure to the sun also contributes to a leathery appearance on the backs of the hands. You can help to reverse this process by using a scrub that combines home-made olive oil and sugar. This mixture will nourish your hands with omega-3 fatty acids. Use a quarter of a teaspoon of each and massage the lotion into the backs of your hands once a week.

Use a Hand Balm

A daily hand balm treatment will help to keep your hands young and fresh. Hand balms are better than the moisturizers you can pick up at the grocery store because they contain only natural ingredients, as opposed to the petrochemicals that are in moisturizers. One of the key ingredients of a good hand balm is bees wax.

Bees wax is such an effective hand treatment because it is a humectant. That means that it acts as a humidifier, drawing water from the atmosphere and into your skin. It also has powerful anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties. What’s more, bees wax is an excellent source of Vitamin A, making it a great cell growth booster. For these reasons, bees wax should form the foundation of your hand balm. Adding the following ingredients will make the balm an even more effective hand nourisher:

Cocoa butter
Shea butter
Vitamin E
Lavender
Almond Oil

Pull Up Grips

When you’re in the gym, your hands are doing more work than any other part of your body. But that doesn’t mean that they have to get all hard and unfeminine. Using a training aid like Pull Up grips will allow you to take a firm hold of the bar, whether you are doing pull ups or you’re grabbing onto a barbell, dumbbell or kettlebell, without causing discomfort.

Pull Up grips are a combination of weight lifting glove and wrist strap. As such, they will allow you to get a firm grip on the bar without the interference of sweat. Sweat compromises your grip, forcing you to tighten your hold. This, in turn, ramps up the level of friction between your hand and the bar, potentially leading to the formation of calluses. Pull Up grips don’t cover the back of your hand like workout gloves do, so they will not contribute to sweat build-up or be as intrusive to your natural hand movement. The inclusion of wrist straps will allow you to keep going on a set when your grip is ready to give up.

Manicure

Keeping your nails in check will prevent you from chipping or splitting them when you’re working out. It will also keep them looking beautiful. You should give yourself a manicure of both your feet and your toes once per week. You can also use a nail hardener to prevent your nails from breaking. Once a month, treat yourself to a professional manicure.

Exercise Your Hands

Your hands contain muscles like any other part of your body. Therefore, they need exercise, too. You can perform quick hand exercises several times throughout the day to keep your hands young and vibrant. One simple exercise is to tightly clench your fists together and then throw them open as wide as you can. You can also press your palms together forcefully and then pull them apart. Finally, perform wrist circles, going in a clockwise position for 10 revolutions and then changing direction.

Conclusion

Your hands are your hardest working body part. But that doesn’t mean they have to look old and weather worn. Follow our 7 tips to soft, sensual hands and you’ll be able to keep you hands young for years to come.
