How Her Intuition Saved Her Life

How Her Intuition Saved Her Life

In this video, Hayley Walker talks about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Even though she was young and lived a healthy lifestyle, Hayley was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent both a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. Now, she is telling her story about how her intuition saved her life.

1 How Her Intuition Saved Her Life

Hayley adds that her doctor missed the cancer at first and told her that the hard lump she felt in one of her breasts was most likely not cancerous. An ultrasound did not catch it, either. Hayley kept insisting that something was wrong and sought a diagnosis from another professional.

This doctor asked Hayley if she took oral contraceptives and learned that Hayley had been taking birth control pills for 17 years. A study in 1996 found that women who take birth control pills are at a higher risk of developing breast cancer. Hayley’s second doctor knew this and referred her to a specialist.

However, Hayley would have to wait another 4 months before she could get an appointment with a specialist. By the time she had an accurate breast cancer diagnosis, the cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes.

Thankfully, Hayley is now a cancer survivor, and she wants to encourage young women to perform monthly self-exams. Her intuition saved her life! The World Research Foundation reports that is it important for patients to get regular check-ups and to be assertive when visiting a doctor.
