Clear Your Skin Without Wasting Money: DIY Pore Strip Removers That Really Work

[nextpage title=”…”]

Pore strips are the thin pieces of adhesive material that are applied across the bridge of the nose, allowed to dry and then pulled off. It is the best way to remove the sebum blockage from pores without damaging the skin by squeezing or picking. The problem is, this is not an inexpensive cosmetic product. Many women need to use these strips every day, or at least every few days to keep their pores from becoming too clogged. That adds up quickly, leaving many to wonder about how they may be able to create their own strips at home and save a little cash. Luckily, it is possible and there are a couple of different ways to try.

Pore Strip Removers

Homemade Pore Strips – Method #1

1 tbsp. of unflavored gelatin
2 tbsp. of milk
A small disposable cup
A craft/Popsicle stick for stirring

Mix the gelatin with the milk in the disposable cup until it is thoroughly combined. It will be very lumpy. Microwave for about 10 seconds, and immediately apply to the skin. The mixture will begin to harden as soon as it begins to cool, so be prepared to use it. This is why only disposable materials should be used, because any bowls or cups and mixing spoons will be almost impossible to clean.

Allow the paste to dry completely on the face. It can be applied anywhere on the face where clogged pores are a problem. Once it is dry, peel it off and throw it away.

Warnings: This mixture will adhere to anything it is applied to, so make certain to stay away from the hairline and the eyebrows to avoid discomfort and, potentially, bald spots. Also, the mixture will not smell appealing. In fact, it has been described as a blend of wet dog and spoiled milk. Adding a drop of essential oil to the mixture or some lemon juice will help, but make certain to allergy test prior to use to avoid products that irritate the skin.

Added Tip: The same measurements and process can be done with vegan recipe as well. With this method, substitute agar agar for the gelatin and use almond milk.

Homemade Pore Strips – Method #2

Unlike the first method, this one requires no measuring or mixing. Instead, it uses only white craft glue to accomplish the pore unclogging. The glue is applied to the face, straight from the bottle, and allowed to dry. Once it is fully dry, just peel it away from the skin. Like the other methods it will clean out the pores and remove dry skin.

Warning: It is important to test it in a small area first, because even though white household glue is non-toxic, some people can be sensitive to it. It should also be kept away from the eyes to prevent any irritation. Apply the glue in a thin layer, because if it is too thick, it will take far too long to for it dry. Elmer’s glue is the most popular brand for this method, but any white all-purpose glue can be used.

The money saving potential of making pore strips at home is its largest benefit, but others appreciate the ability to use only natural products (like the first method listed above) rather than chemicals. Other people just enjoy making something from scratch rather than relying on a corporation to do it for them. After use, the pores should look cleaner and may appear smaller. The skin will often be softer to the touch as well, because the dead surface skin will be removed.

Some people may experience sensitivity in the areas where the blackhead remover was used, and the skin may be temporarily red. When trying either method for the first time, choose a day when there is no need to go out, wear makeup or be in the sun. This is just a precaution for anyone using a new cosmetic product. It is also important to shower or bathe first so the skin is clean and the steam will help to loosen the sebum in the pores.
