15 Nail Hacks For The Perfect DIY Manicure

When you’re short on time or low on funds, a professional manicure or pedicure can be a luxury you simply can’t afford. If you don’t know what you’re doing, at-home manicures can be time-consuming and messy. But if you know a few trade secrets, you can do your own nails like a pro. Here are some quick tips on how to look like you just stepped out of the nail spa.

12 Nail Hacks For The Perfect DIY Manicure

1) Use a hot towel to soften calluses on the bottoms of your feet. First, rub a moisturizing callus remover into your feet. Soak a towel in hot water, squeeze out the excess moisture, and wrap it around your foot for 5 minutes, then poke your toes out while keeping the rest of your foot covered. File off any calluses on your toes and paint them. By the time the polish is dry, the rest of the calluses should be super easy to file down.

2) Use ingredients from your medicine cabinet to remove stains from your nails. Simply scrub each nail with whitening toothpaste or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and hot water.

3) Put Vaseline or Aquaphor on your cuticles to prevent sloppy brush strokes from painting your skin.

4) To avoid smudging, paint your nails with several thin coats rather than one thick coat of polish. Allow a minute for each layer to air dry before applying the next layer.

5) Fix Your Broken Nail:

6) Prevent blisters by leaving a bit of callus at the bottom of your feet in the summer. Podiatrists recommend leaving a bit of thickening to help protect your feet from the friction of walking in open-toed shoes. Believe it or not, those rough calluses are your body’s natural protection.

7) Boost your biotin intake to make brittle nails strong. Biotin, also known as vitamin H, can be found as a supplement or in foods such as eggs, nuts, legumes and brewer’s yeast.

8) Nail Design at Home :

9) Don’t cut your cuticles. Dermatologists recommend gently pushing your cuticles back with a warm wet washcloth. Cuticles are a protective barrier against bacteria, and cutting them can cause infection.

10) To help your polish dry faster, run a hairdryer set on low over your hands and feet before and after you apply polish. Heat helps to cure your polish and top coat. The warmer your body is before you paint, the faster each coat will dry.

11) Use Rubber Band to Loosen Stubborn Nail Polish Bottle Tops:

12) Dip a small paint brush or makeup brush into polish remover to erase mistakes.

13) Use a rubberized base coat to make the manicure last longer. Orly bonder is the go-to brand for nail techs. The base coat adheres to the color polish and can keep nails chip-free for up to 10 days.

14) Immerse your hands in a bowl of ice water after 3 minutes of air drying to help nails harden quicker.

15) Treat painful hangnails with Vitamin E rich avocado and coconut oil. Simply mash the avocado, mix in some coconut oil and rub the mixture into your hands before bedtime. In the morning, wash your hands.

By keeping your nails healthy and using a few simple shortcuts, anyone can have salon quality nails!
