Affordable Care Act Myths and Facts

Author’s Note: When starting research into this area the amount of information is overwhelming, there will be more than one article covering things we all need to know, this is just a basic starter made into simple language right from the government website. Due to typing issues and repetition we will not call it the Affordable Care Act nor by Obamacare in this article, it will simple be known as ACA. Simple.

The ACA will not be funding abortions. There is no funding for that UNLESS it is a case of rape, incest, or endangering the mother’s life. The ACA expressly forbids taxpayer-funded abortion.

With the ACA more than 105 million Americans no longer have lifetime limits on coverage. Annual limits will be phased out by 2014.

Many think that providing healthcare will ruin small businesses, this in not true. The ACA lowers cost for businesses to provide healthcare by up to 4% for small businesses and 3% for larger ones, a decrease of about $2000 per person.

The ACA will reduce the cost of healthcare in America, average savings for a family of 4 in 2014 will be $2300, and will reduce the deficit by more than one trillion dollars over the next 10 years.

More people are already getting access to improved prevention programs.  An estimated 32.5 million people with Medicare have already received at least one free preventive service.

 

The government will NOT take over healthcare. The ACA puts the individual in charge of their own, not an insurance company, not the government. You decide who you see and when, the insurance company will no longer be able to tell you a recommended test is not covered, just for an example. Those without access to an insurance plan will receive tax credits to help purchase a plan independently.

Some people believe that employers will stop providing insurance, not true, for those states that have programs of their own in place the number of employers providing coverage has gone up. Employers want the best employees, to get that they will need to provide better benefits.

Thanks to the ACA tools and resources already been put into practice health care fraud prevention and enforcement recovered $4.1 billion in 2011, $10.7 billion in the last 3 years.

For the first time ever insurance companies will have to publicly declare their intentions if they intend to raise premiums by 10% or more and states will have the right to reject unreasonable increases.

The ACA has been declared by legal experts and federal judges of both parties to be constitutional.

Since 2010 3.1 million young adults have been able to access healthcare by staying on their parent’s insurance until they are 26 years old.

Seniors with Medicare are paying less for their prescriptions, on average of $604 per person, over $3.1 billion.

Otherwise, you could be in for a long, confusing ride over the next few years.

This is a law, it is already in effect, and the funding is in place for it. Some people are trying to hold off the start date for the American people, but it will start, it was signed in March 2010.  The next article will delve deeper into understanding the reforms and how they will work for you, as an American and a taxpayer.
