Seasonal Allergies in Children

If you have been noticing sneezing, congestion and the runny nose in your children, maybe its due to seasonal allergies, especially if they get similar symptoms at the same time every year.
Seasonal allergies are also known as hay fever, they occur mainly when outdoor molds release their spores and trees, grasses, and weeds release tiny pollen particles into the air to fertilize other plants. This can threaten the immune system, especially of those who are allergic to pollen particles.
Seasonal allergies can start at any age, though they usually develop by 10 years of age.

In the mid-Atlantic states, tree pollination is February through May, grass pollen runs from May through June, and weed pollen is from August through October so kids with these allergies are likely to have increased symptoms at those times.

Children suffering from seasonal allergies often can’t concentrate, and chronic nasal stuffiness may interfere with the quality of their sleep, making them tired throughout the day and prone to dozing off.

Allergy symptoms usually come on suddenly and can include: sneezing, itchy nose and/or throat, nasal congestion, runny nose and coughing, and they often include itchy, watery, and red eyes, which is called allergic conjunctivitis.

Seasonal allergies not only make life miserable for your child, but if left untreated they can lead to some greater long-term health problems such as sinusitis, chronic ear infections, and even asthma.
In addition, chronic nasal allergies, nasal congestion, or mouth breathing can result in a malformed jaw and teeth, which can affect your child’s appearance.

As far as prevention is concerned, diet is a great way to influence your experience of seasonal allergies, make sure your child consumes essential fatty acids coming from organic flax seed or hemp seed oil since they can help reduce seasonal allergies, and opt for organic cleaning products. Outside, pollen is impossible to avoid, but indoor air is another matter, get a HEPA air filter, which removes pollen and dust from air, and run it in your child’s bedroom 24 hours a day.

Homeopathic remedies, made from natural substances, work by stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms and can be beneficial for allergy sufferers, several compounds found in rosemary, including rosmarinic acid, luteolin and perillyl, can be very effective in normalizing the inflammation and immune response that accompany allergic reactions.
