Malnutrition and its Causes

Did you know malnutrition is the gravest single threat to global public health?

Malnutrition can be defined as the insufficient, excessive or imbalanced consumption of nutrients, it could be presented as under nutrition, if the diet does not provide them with adequate calories and protein for maintenance and growth, or they cannot fully utilize the food they eat due to illness or conversely, over nutrition if someone consumes too many calories. There are many causes for malnutrition, mainly related to food rather than external causes.

Malnutrition and Its Causes

Lack of a nutritious and balanced diet is responsible to a great extent for malnutrition in children. Lack of essential elements like proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, mostly due to poverty.
Intake of an indigestible and harmful diet is also one of the main causes of malnutrition, due to processed food items that often lead to lack of hunger so that sometimes children fall prey to malnutrition.

Irregular intake of food can also be very harmful, this indiscipline may result as a very bad habit and cause malnutrition as well.
There are also different situations that may cause this problem too, such as dirty environment of home and school due to lack of fresh and pure air, lack of sunlight, non-availability of playground areas, and dirty streets, all of which hamper proper nutrition of children.
Excess of homework and television watching in late hours causes lack of sleep, as does lack of space and suffocating bedrooms.
