There are numerous aspects of the body in which magnesium plays a role. Proper levels of magnesium can lead to some amazing health benefits, and the opposite is true for low levels of the mineral. If a person experiences low levels of magnesium, they could lose certain functionality in their body and even be at risk for serious disease. A great way to ensure nominal levels of magnesium is to imbibe a magnesium water recipe. Such water can do wonders for aches, pains, and headaches, among other things. The magnesium water recipe included below is easy to make and amazing for your health.

You may already be familiar with the benefits associated with magnesium since it has become a widely popular additive in processed bottled water. These beverages include magnesium bicarbonate as their source of the mineral, and that substance does not exist naturally in any food. The only way to obtain it is through expensive supplements of through making your own at home, which is easy and affordable.

Magnesium is vital for optimal health, and a magnesium deficiency can lead to fatigue, asthma, muscle cramps, irregular heart rhythm, irritability, kidney or liver disease, insomnia, hypertension, and high blood pressure, just to name a few. Magnesium supplements are known to improve the quality of sleep, reduce muscle aches and pains, and alleviate the harshest symptoms associated with migraines. The reason behind such versatility is that magnesium is a regulatory mineral that helps balance electrolytes in the body.

One estimate claims that sudden heart attacks are caused by low levels of magnesium about half the time. Magnesium is connected to everything in the body since it is used as a means of communicating signals between different systems.

It is uncommon to find magnesium bicarbonate in a beverage unless it is made to include the mineral. Many glacial spring waters that are filtered through natural volcanic layers of sediment are naturally imbibed with magnesium bicarbonate, which is why they are generally more expensive. It has been proven that these types of highly alkaline mineral waters can help digestion and improve the absorption of other nutrients.

Magnesium bicarbonate has the ability to neutralize body acids, which helps keep the body’s pH balanced where it should be. It can also help sodium and calcium channels in the cells function more efficiently. Interestingly, there is evidence that it can prevent heavy metal toxicity from things like lead or mercury. It allows relaxation, memory, and focus to thrive within the mind.

To create your own magnesium bicarbonate water at home, all you need is a bottle of carbonated water, also known as seltzer, and a bottle of Milk of Magnesia. Milk of Magnesia contains magnesium hydroxide, which is the source of magnesium for the reaction necessary to create magnesium bicarbonate. The bicarbonate comes from the carbonation in the seltzer.

Start by chilling a liter of seltzer. Be sure the water has no other additives beyond carbonation and possibly a small amount of sodium. Measure about 45 ml of Milk of Magnesia and set it to the side. The magnesium hydroxide will react with the carbon dioxide in the seltzer, so you should be careful to avoid agitating the seltzer. That will cause carbonation to be lost.

Once you’ve carefully removed the cap off the seltzer, quickly add the Milk of Magnesia, replace the cap, and shake the bottle for about 30 seconds. Continue to refrigerate the water, and shake it once more after 30 minutes. The result will be a liter of water containing about 7500 mg of bicarbonate and 1500 mg of magnesium. The serving size should be half of a cup, and it should be refrigerated until finished.
