Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder. Not only does it make people feel ravenous without pause, but it also significantly alters the metabolism. The condition makes its sufferers’ metabolisms markedly slower.

The hypothalamus is the section of the brain that’s in charge of alerting people to whether they’re hungry or not. When a person has Prader-Willi Syndrome, his hypothalamus essentially isn’t on. This means that the people who have the condition aren’t clued into the fact that they’re not actually hungry if they’ve just eaten. This is why the concept of feeling “full” simply doesn’t exist to Hannah. Her normal state in life is one of severe hunger.
