12 Reasons a Vegetarian Diet Is Worth Considering

If you are you researching ways to live healthier, have you considered becoming a vegetarian? Vegetarians do not eat meat, beef stock, poultry, poultry stock, and fish. They also avoid lard and gelatin. Instead, they eat mainly fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains, and legumes. Vegetarians also eat eggs and dairy products (unlike vegans, who don’t). Vegetarian diet are a primary source of nutrition for most of the world’s population, the meals are simple and easy to prepare and use few natural resources. Because veggie diets use few natural resources, it’s good for the planet.

The Health Benefits of a Vegetarian Diet

1. Vegetarians are at a lower risk for hypertension because animal fat is not in the blood stream. Also, vegetables and fruits are rich in potassium, which helps lower blood pressure.

2. Vegetarians are at a lower risk for stroke, and heart disease because of the lower intake of saturated fat, animal protein, and cholesterol. Another benefit is the higher intake of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, certain vitamins, and phytochemicals (plant chemicals that protect against and prevent disease).

3. Veggie diets are helpful in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. These diets are often lower in calories, which helps with weight management. Eating fruits, vegetables, legumes, etc., can improve blood sugar control (as long as starches, like potatoes, white bread, white rice, et cetera. are consumed in moderation).

4. Vegetarians usually have low cholesterol levels due to the elimination of animal fat from their diets.

5. Studies have shown that vegan diets are beneficial in the treatment of arthritis. Patients report a significant decrease in their symptoms. Foods considered “pain-safe” because they do not cause arthritis pain include brown rice, dried fruit, and cooked green, yellow and orange vegetables.

6. There is less risk of obesity because vegetarians and vegans have the tendency to be more deliberate about their food choices and are less likely to binge eat. (There are, of course, exceptions).

7. Well-balanced vegetarian diets are appropriate for all ages, pregnant and nursing women, and competitive athletes.

10. In 2012, an analysis of all the best studies on the topic of cancer and diet concluded that vegetarians have significantly lower cancer rates. A newer study reports that women who eat a vegan diet had 34 percent lower rates of breast, cervical and ovarian cancer.

11. Eating meats, compared to vegetarian diets has shown to almost double the risk of gallstones in women.

12. A study showed that people with asthma that eat a vegan diet for an entire year need much less medication, and there is a significant decrease in the frequency and severity of asthma attacks.

A vegetarian lifestyle is a good choice for you and the planet. “Try it. You might like it”.
