As an adult, it is important for you to have a fulfilling love life with your significant other. Expressing romantic desires with a partner is an enjoyable activity that adds pleasure to life. The inability to make love is an extremely personal matter. With decreased performance, many people opt to suffer in silence. Some people become embarrassed or ashamed. Other people blame themselves for the problem. Whatever the reason, they choose not to share these problems with their partners or their health professionals.

Prescription medications work wonders for diseases and other medical conditions. However, it is a documented fact that they are responsible for approximately 25 percent of these physical dysfunctions. Many patients are unaware of the effects medications can have on their lives. There are 6 prescription medications that can wreck your love life.

1. Blood pressure medications such as diuretics, beta blockers and alpha blockers cause lovemaking problems. These medications are responsible for lowering blood pressure inside of the blood vessels. Using blood pressure medication can lead to reduced desire, erectile dysfunction and difficulties achieving satisfaction.

2. Statins and fibrates are prescribed by doctors to lower cholesterol. Since cholesterol is a primary building block for Testosterone in men and Estrogen and Progesterone in women,  using medicine in this class interferes with your performance. Conditions such as increased difficulty having satisfaction peak, low libido and erectile dysfunction have been reported by patients using these drugs.

3. Antidepressants are prescribed to treat anxiety disorders, depression , smoking addictions and obsessive compulsive disorders. They also cause ejaculation failure, impotence and decreased libido.

4. Antipsychotics are prescribed to treat mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar and psychotic conditions. It has been reported that they block the production of dopamine and increase production of prolactin. As a result, patients using these prescription drug types experience difficulties achieving satisfaction peak and erectile dysfunction.

5. Benxodiazepines are tranquilizers that are often prescribed to treat agitation, insomnia, muscle spasms and anxiety. These drugs cause muscle relaxation and sedation. Many patients using these drugs experience decreased desire, pain during lovemaking and erectile dysfunction.

6. Anti-convulsent drugs are used to treat patients who have seizures and epilepsy. They lower testosterone levels which interferes with arousal.

If you are experiencing decreased performance as a result of prescription medications, it is important to discuss the matter with your health professional. Your doctor can prescribe lower dosages of your medication or prescribe a different medication altogether. You do not have to suffer in silence with these often treatable conditions.
