6 Effective Home Remedies For Treating And Relieving Jock Itch

Jock itch, or tinea cruris, is a fungal infection that usually appears in the groin area, inner thighs, or on the buttocks. It looks like a red or pink rash and can cause a lot of irritation. Severe itching or burning is the most common symptoms, and it is mildly contagious. Studies done by the University of Maryland confirm many transmission methods including skin-to-skin contact and unwashed clothes.

Jock itch

While jock itch isn’t a serious condition, it can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing. Some cases will suddenly disappear without any treatment, while others come and go and are very stubborn to cure. There are numerous over-the-counter and prescription remedies that are very effective. However, there are also home remedies that are natural and affordable.

1. Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil is effective against jock itch and other fungal infections because of its natural anti-fungal attributes and deep cleansing properties. You can either apply the oil to infected areas with a cotton swab or add a few drops to a bath and soak for 15 minutes. Do either option for several days until the rash disappears.

2. White Vinegar – The antifungal properties associated with vinegar are perfect for treating jock itch. Mix four parts water to one part white vinegar. Clean the infected area with the mixture twice a day until it clears up.

3. Salt Bath – Epsom salt or bath salts are perfect for helping jock itch to heal and to halt the spread of the rash. Sock in a tub full of water and a lot of salt for 30 minutes. Do this until the infection is healed.

4. Honey – Honey has antiseptic properties that promote healing. Apply to the infected area liberally and allow it to stand for 30 minutes. Completely wash off the honey and dry the area. Repeat three times a day for one month.

5. Rubbing Alcohol – Alcohol is a perfect treatment for jock itch because it dries out the rash and allows it to heal. Dip a cotton ball into the alcohol and then gently apply to the infected area. Allow it to dry on its own. Do this several times a day.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar– Apple cider vinegar has powerful and natural antibacterial properties. Dilute two tablespoons with two cups of water and apply liberally to the rash. Do this several times a day for a couple weeks or until the infection disappears.

Many of these home remedies will work as effectively as an OTC medication, but you should always consult a doctor if the problem persists.
