8 Hair Mistakes You’re Making in the Shower
Everybody wants to have great-looking hair. Some even go to great lengths to improve the appearance of their locks. However, all the hair products and styling in the world won’t make your hair look its best if you’re making the following mistakes in the shower.
1. Washing Daily
Your scalp produces natural oils that help keep your hair healthy and smooth. Each time you wash your hair, you’re removing those natural oils. Too much washing can easily dry your hair out and leave it looking lifeless and frazzled. Instead of washing daily, consider washing every other day or even once every few days, depending on your needs.
2. Taking Scorching Hot Showers
Sometimes, there’s nothing more relaxing than a nice, hot shower. However, heat is bad for your hair. Therefore, it’s best to keep the water temperature down when you wash and rinse your hair. This will help keep it from looking fried and can also cut down on frizz.
3. Switching Up Shampoos
You might be tempted to try a new shampoo every time you venture out to the grocery store, but changing up your shampoos too often can wreak havoc on your hair, leaving it looking over-processed and unhealthy. If you can find a shampoo that you like, it’s best to stick with it.
4. Not Using Conditioner
While shampooing is an important step in cleansing your hair, conditioning is often just as important, so don’t skip it! Conditioner helps to smooth out your hair and de-tangle it, which makes it easier to comb out once you’re out of the shower. When you don’t use conditioner and try to brush your hair once you’re out of the shower, you’re likely to experience breakage.
5. Leaving Product In
Everybody has to rush through their showers every once in awhile. However, in your hurry to get in and out of the shower, make sure you sill remove all of the product (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) that’s in your hair before you get out. Leftover product in your hair can leave it feeling greasy and looking weighed-down.
6. Washing Haphazardly
Believe it or not, there’s a technique to washing your hair that can yield better results. When using shampoo, be sure to massage the majority of it into your scalp; use it more sparingly on the ends of your hair to avoid damage. If you’re haphazard about the way you wash your hair, it’s not going to look its best.
7. Washing, Rinsing, and Repeating
Have you ever read the back of your shampoo bottle? If so, then you’re probably familiar with the phrase “lather, rinse, and repeat.” However, washing your hair more than once in the shower is a sure way to dry it out. If you have to wash your hair, once will be enough.
8. Using Cheap Products
Sure, most people can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars a month on salon hair-care products. However, if you’re buying the cheapest shampoos and conditioners on the market, you’re probably not giving your hair the nourishment it needs to look healthy.
