Latest Aviation Mystery: 7 Possible CONSPIRACY Theories

Allow us to preface this article by saying, we’re going off the beaten track here a bit. If you’re unaware of the story, Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 fell off radar screens Saturday during a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing. Families of the 239 people on board have been warned to expect the worst, and searchers, including groups from the U.S. military, continue to look for clues to the plane’s fate. These are some of the more creative theories.

    1. Aliens are involved: Alexandra Bruce at ForbiddenKnowledgeTV points to records on the flight mapping website Flightradar24 as evidence of extraterrestrial meddling. She goes so far as to say the “captured signals” could “only be termed a UFO.”

Source? YouTube user DAHBOO77, who posted a video that attempts to recreate the plane’s last moments. The clip shows a quick-moving plane and other strange anomalies around the time of the MH370’s disappearance from radar.

Loading the logs directly on the site allows readers to easily click and identify the so-called “UFO,” which is clearly marked as Korean Airlines Flight 672. Its apparent supersonic speed is likely related to a glitch in the system, not alien intervention, according to the site’s CEO Mikael Robertsson.

That isn’t to say there aren’t a host of other people claiming aliens. For example, writer Mike Adams at the site Natural News isn’t ready to buy into the extra-terrestrial theories quite yet, but he is certain that “if we never find the debris, it means some entirely new, mysterious and powerful force is at work on our planet which can pluck airplanes out of the sky without leaving behind even a shred of evidence.”

    2. The plane is in Vietnam, where it is waiting to be used as a weapon: Blogger ShantiUniverse says she has three possible theories about what happened to Flight MH370: A major mechanical error, a terrorist attack, or it was whisked away to a secret Vietnamese airport to be used in a later 9/11 style attack.

“Flight 370 was last contacted by another unnamed pilot 10 minutes after losing initial contact,” she writes. “He claims the plane was deep into Vietnam airspace. Its [sic] possible it was hijacked and forced to land at another airport, where passengers are being held hostage. There is a long list of former airports and proposed airports in Vietnam. Its also possible since the plane had no contact, it could of [sic] managed to get to Cambodia to a former or proposed airport…Why would terrorist want a plane intact? Though this is highly unlikely, but not impossible, the only reason I can think of is they would want the plane to use as a weapon of mass destruction like on the September 11 attacks.”

Similarly, there are those who think the flight the passengers were taken to Pyongyang – while the trip to both Beijing and Pyongyang appear equidistant, this theory would require the plane fly at extremely low altitudes to avoid radar detection, which – due to greater air density at lower altitudes – would require more fuel to travel the same distance.

  1. The plane was kidnapped (or grounded) by terrorists. Subscribers to the terrorism theory have the most tangible evidence on their side so far, whether or not authorities agree with it. The first suspicious piece of information suggesting foul play was that the pilot did not send a distress signal before the plane disappeared.

The second: the revelation that two of the passengers, Iranian nationals who reportedly arrived in Malaysia on the same day and boarded the flight at the same time, had used stolen passports. Both international and Malaysian police authorities, however, have stated that they doubt the Iranian passengers had any links to terrorist groups, noting that one of them, 19-year-old Pouria Nourmohammadi Mehrdad, was using the stolen passport to meet up with his mom in Germany, where he reportedly planned to seek asylum. Also, terrorists typically take credit for their own work, and even for the work of others, soon after an attack. In this case, however, no terrorist groups have claimed responsibility for the plane’s disappearance.

The best part of the terrorism theory is the notion that whoever is in control of the plane is able to keep the enormous aircraft hidden with the use of high-tech electronic weaponry that can make airplanes invisible to radar as well as the human eye. Yes, this is a thing and yes, it’s basically Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak for planes.

  2. This is all an elaborate insurance scam: At a news conference Tuesday, Malaysia’s police chief Khalid Abu Baker said, “Maybe someone on the flight has bought a huge sum of insurance, who wants family to gain from it or somebody has owed somebody so much money, you know, we are looking at all possibilities.”

  3. There’s a new Bermuda triangle: Though the Bermuda Triangle’s status as one of the sea’s most mysteriously treacherous zones has been debunked for decades, it doesn’t stop some from seeing triangles in the Gulf of Thailand. It was inevitable that the disappearance would evoke comparisons to the infamous supposed patch of water into which ships and planes are said to vanish without a trace.

  4. Something-something North Korea: Look, it’s not as though North Korea hasn’t hijacked a plane before, right? Struggling to be taken seriously, this might not be as outlandish as the other theories. Let’s assume for a minute that MH370 did not crash. As of the writing of this, no wreckage had been found, but where does one hide such an enormous piece of machinery and 239 people? North Korea, of course. One Reddit user has claimed that the jet had enough fuel to make it there and stay within cellphone range, offering an explanation for the ringing phones.

  5. The plane exploded in mid-air and disintegrated: Could the Beijing-bound Boeing have disintegrated in mid-air? Investigators say it’s possible. “The fact that we are unable to find any debris so far appears to indicate that the aircraft is likely to have disintegrated at around 35,000 feet,” a source told Reuters. The source was hesitant to suggest that it could have been a bomb that caused the aircraft to hypothetically explode, noting that investigators have yet to find any evidence of foul play and that mechanical problems could just have easily caused the plan to break apart.

Regardless of the cause, this is a horrific tragedy and this author hopes a conclusion will be met with before the end of the month. May the families of those who were lost be comforted. The disappearance of Flight 730 isn’t the first aeronautics mystery to leave investigators searching for answers, but it is the most recent and, somehow, baffling in this day and age of technology (GPS, radar, satellites, cellphones, etc) that these mysteries still occur. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself – is such a thing possible?
