People often talk about foods that should not be given to dogs like chocolate, raisins, and grapes, but there are “human” foods you can safely give your dog. Here is a list of them. Make sure to leave salt and other seasonings aside and keep food simple when giving it to your dog:

1. Cheese

Cheese is yummy and protein-enriched. It is safe to give your dog some cheese unless he is lactose intolerant. Start by giving small amounts of cheese to check for reactions from your dog. If he is okay you can serve him low or reduced fat dairy products to minimize fat.

2. Yogurt

Yogurt can improve gut function and contains a large number of nutrients; protein, calcium, phosphorus, iodine, zinc, and vitamin B12. Choose yogurt with live active bacteria that act as probiotics and no sugars or artificial sweeteners.

Apples are crunchy and make great treats for dogs. The apple peel of contains plant chemicals which protect us from some types of cancer. They are also a good source of vitamins B and C and its ok to give them to dogs. Make sure you do not give them the apple core as seeds can harm your dog in the long run.

4. Eggs

Eggs are a great source of digestible protein therefore are good for dogs that have a weak digestive system. Don’t give raw egg whites to your dog as it can cause a biotin deficiency which can adversely affect your dog’s skin and coat health. Always cook the eggs first then offer it to your dog.

5. Oatmeal

Oatmeal contains soluble fiber which is good for dogs with problems maintaining bowel regularity. You can mix it with probiotics to enhance its functioning. Keep in mind that oatmeal should be cooked plain without any sugar or flavoring. Its also a good alternate grain for dogs that are allergic to wheat.

6. Popcorn

Your favorite movie time snack, popcorn, can be a great low-calorie treat for your dog. Popcorn contains potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, and calcium which are beneficial for your dog, avoid salt and butter.

7. Peanut Butter

Many people question whether or not they can share peanut butter with their dog, the answer is yes. You can give your dog plain natural peanut butter without added sugar, preservatives, or salt. Since peanut butter is rich in fat and calories, a small amount is enough.

Green beans are rich in vitamins K and C, fiber, and manganese. They are good for dogs, especially those who are prone to weight gain. Including this in your dog’s diet can help maintain good health. Frozen beans are enjoyed by some dogs.

9. Sweet potatoes

A good source of fiber, sweet potatoes are good for dogs. They contain vitamins B6 and C, beta carotene, and manganese. They are readily available and inexpensive.
