9 Natural Remedies For Keloids

Keloids are enlarged scars that occur from abnormal growth of fibrous tissues. Minor burns, acne, bites, cuts, and minor injuries leave scars which can result in keloids when excess collagen gathers in them. Keloids are not painful but itchy. Most people don’t like these scars. Here are some home remedies that can help you get rid of keloids without laser treatment or surgery.

Keloids home remedies

1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a great remedy which helps reduce size and redness of scar tissue. Apply a few drops on the affected area and massage it well so that your skin can absorb it. Leave on for a few minutes until dry. Repeat the process a few times to expedite healing. You can dilute the vinegar with water if it irritates your skin. Use 4 -5 weeks for best results.

2. Essential Oils
You can use lavender, calendula, and coconut oils to treat keloid scars. Mix ½ tablespoon of lavender and calendula oil with 10 tablespoons coconut oil. Stir well and massage the scar with this mixture for 15-20 minutes then wash off with cool clean water and a gentle cleanser.

3. Honey
Honey is a great natural moisturizer that helps cure and hydrate the skin. Frequent intake of honey can help you get rid of keloids. Apply honey directly to the scar and massage, this will increase blood flow and stop the occurrence of dead skin.

4. Garlic
Garlic is an ingredients in many scar treatments. Its effective for treating keloids as it reduces creation of scar tissue. Garlic oil can be used on your scars, if it is unavailable you can use garlic cloves after smashing them. If you feel any discomfort after applying garlic oil, immediately clean the area with water.

5. Aspirin
Aspirin is a strong anti-inflammatory agent as it contains salicylic acid which makes it useful for treating keloids. Take 2-3 tablets of aspirin and crush them into powder and add a few drops of water to make a paste. Wash your scars with warm water before applying. Then apply to the affected area and let it dry for 10-15 minutes so that it can soak into the scars.

6. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is useful and effective for treating skin. It helps treat keloids by keeping your skin moisturized and healing the damaged skin. Apply aloe vera gel on the affected area twice a day to get rid of keloids. Don’t forget to wash your keloids with lukewarm water before applying the gel.

7. Rose Water and Sandalwood
Rose water works great as skin toner and sandalwood has several skin regenerating properties. The combination of rose water and sandalwood can help reduce and prevent keloid scars. Make a paste by adding water to sandalwood powder and apply the paste to the affected area before bed. Clean the scars before applying the paste. In the morning wash it off with lukewarm water and repeat the process for a month or two.

8. Lemon Juice
Lemon contains vitamin C and antioxidants that are helpful for treating different types of scars. Squeeze a lemon and apply the lemon juice on your keloids. Let it dry for half an hour then wash it off with lukewarm water. Repeat the process daily and you will feel improvement in the color and appearance of scars.

9. Baking soda
Baking soda can be used to treat keloids. Blend one portion baking soda with four portions hydrogen peroxide to create a gel. Apply to your keloids which will reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process. You can try this 3-4 times a day depending upon the size and severity of your scar.
