Many people love dogs as companions and pets. It’s as necessary to take care of your dog’s hygiene as it is your own. One common problem with dogs is fleas. Fleas feed on dog’s blood then lay their eggs on them and multiply. Here are some natural remedies to get rid of fleas:

1. Lavender oil
Lavender oil is effective for killing fleas with a simple trick. Apply 2 – 3 drops of the essential oil on the back of your dog’s neck and a couple drops at the base of its tail. This will help control flea infestations. You can also spray it on the areas where flea infestations are troublesome.

Apple cider vinegar can help control fleas because of the strong odor. Add 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar to your dog’s water bowl. This will make them taste repulsive to fleas and chances of flea infestation will be reduced.

3. Lemon spray
Lemon is another flea repellent. Take a quartered lemon and steep it in boiling water overnight. In the morning, throw away the lemon pieces and spray this water on your dog. Spray it to other areas as well where fleas are prone to assemble.

4. Rosemary dip
Take two cups of rosemary and steep them in boiling water for 30 minutes, drain the water and discard the leaves and add a gallon of water. Let the water sit until its slightly warm. Spray the water on your dog until he’s soaked and let your dog dry naturally. This treatment is perfect for hot summer days.

5. Citrus oil
This trick is perfect for dogs. Cut citrus peels into pieces, you can use lemon, grapefruit, or orange. Place the pieces in a pan of water and simmer for 15 minutes. Let it cool completely then pour over your dog’s fur. Make sure to cover the entire skin and areas that are hard to reach.

6. Warm light and soap water
This trick takes longer and is used by those who wish to avoid harmful chemical-based products. At night when your dog goes to his bed, place a bowl full of warm soapy water under the night sky. The fleas will be attracted to the warm light of the night light and as they can’t swim, they will drown.

7. Baths
The best way to keep your dog free from fleas is to keep them clean by giving them baths. Use natural pet shampoo, not human shampoo. You can use baby shampoo as well. Use ample shampoo as the suds will suffocate the fleas. Leave the shampoo on for at least 15 minutes. The fleas will come out searching for air and you can wash them off and drain them. After the bath, leave your pet outside for 1 – 2 hours as the fleas that are left will jump off for safety.

8. Oils
Oils that can help you get rid of fleas include canola, peanut, sesame, olive, or any vegetable oil. Rub the oil on your dog’s fur and covering the entire body, especially the neck area and the areas behind ears and legs. The fleas will jump off to escape. Leave the oil on your dog for 15 minutes then comb the dog’s fur with a fine-tooth or lice comb. After you are done with this job, wash your dog with baby shampoo or mild soap to remove the oil.
