Chronic stress can be defined as human response to emotional thrust over a period of time so that a person perceives they have no control over things. Chronic stress is not good for our body, especially the heart. Going though chronic stress for a long period of time can lead to high blood pressure, inhibition of growth, and deteriorated immune system. There are some ways through which you can overcome chronic stress, mentioned below is a list of some of them:

stop stress

1. Avoid processed and refined foods
Foods like white flour, white sugar, artificial sweeteners, sodas, junk foods, and other foods that contain preservatives should be avoided or reduced for reducing stress. The idea behind avoiding these foods is to maintain steady levels of blood sugar by eating foods that are slow-burning complex carbohydrates. Eating grains like quinoa, millet, and buckwheat helps keep blood sugar stable which is a major cause of chronic stress. Processed and refined foods cause inflammation in the body which also contributes to stress.

2. Unplug
Advances in technology have made our lives easier, however at times these gadgets can be a big stressor. Take some time for yourself, during that time try to stay away from cell phones, television, laptops, and iPods. Pay attention to your thoughts and relax. Studies show that the more you are connected with yourself, the less stress you have.

3. Take a break from the news
Our body is made of tiny cells designed to accept happiness. When we look at the newspaper or watch news bulletins on television, almost all the news contains some negativity. Experts suggest it’s a good idea to take a break from the news sometimes. A regular source of negative news is not good for our health and can increase stress.

4. Improve your posture
Our body language can make us feel better and more confident, the same goes with the posture we maintain while sitting or standing. Sometimes more open poses make us feel more accepted and in control which can reduce tension. Sometimes bad posture puts us in uncomfortable positions and we tend to think that things around us are not right. The right posture makes us feel more confident and healthy.

5. Don’t stop your tears
According to various studies crying cleanses the eyes and upper part of our face which makes us feel relaxed, this is why we often feel better after a good cry, stopping the tears means we are holding toxins inside. Deep sobs taken while crying open our diaphragm and chest which releases energy which rids our heart of muscular tension. Crying also makes our brain release neurochemicals that make us feel more relaxed and stimulates the flow of oxygen through our bodies.

6. Swim in salt water
Swimming is good exercise, swimming in salt water is the best thing you can do for your body. Salt water is known for reducing inflammation in joints and muscles which helps the body be stress-free and relaxed. If you do not have access to sea water try adding some Epsom salts to your bath and enjoy the relaxing alternative.
