In today’s era of globalization many of us fly frequently. Busy schedules, family and work stress often don’t leave us with much time to plan our flights and we find ourselves getting sick because from too much travel. Here are a few helpful tips to follow that can help you stay healthy in between flights.
1. Carry healthy travel essentials
The food served in flights and sold in airports is generally ready-to-eat and low on nutrition. It’s a good idea to carry some nutritious food with you in your handbags like raw nuts, fruit, or protein powder. Avoid portable snacks served and enjoy your own. Keeping nutritious food with you during travel saves time, money, and health.
2. Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated during the flying hours is key to remaining healthy. Generally people in flights or at airports tend to go for coffee or tea instead of water. Caffeine in these beverages when mixed with flying doubles dehydration levels. Some also enjoy alcoholic drinks in planes. Avoiding these beverages and replacing them with pure water can do the trick for you.
3. Maintain balanced blood-sugar levels
Maintaining blood-sugar by eating the right diet of lean protein, high quality fiber, and essential nutrients is another way to stay healthy when traveling. Foods like green vegetables keep you full and energized while helping the fat-burning process.
4. Get enough sleep
Sound sleep optimizes hormone levels and secretes serotonin, the hormone responsible for making you feel good. Sound sleep also lets you enjoy your journey. Using an eye mask can be helpful.
5. Keep it clean
Airports and planes are places where thousands of people come and go daily. This enormous traffic attracts germs and we remain open to these germs. It might sound unorthodox but carrying hand sanitizer and using it before eating is something that can save you from disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Use them after visiting public toilets and touching risky surfaces.
6. Avoid stress
Stress is the biggest enemy of a healthy body and when flying comes into the picture, it becomes all the more dangerous. Avoid any sort of stress before you fly and try to relax with a sound state of mind. Indulge in something that makes you happy or pursue hobbies like listening to light music or reading. Stress releases cortisol, a hormone responsible for breaking down muscle and boosting fat deposition. Breathe deeply and think about things that frustrate you as beyond your control.
7. Don’t skip exercise
Exercise has multiple health benefits and can keep you healthy while you fly. Don’t skip exercise while you are away from home. Try to visit the gym on the day you travel. When we exercise regularly our body gets used to it and when we skip exercise the body feels something is missing. Exercise keeps you active and increases the body’s nutrition absorbing power.
