What fad diets try to offer is a quick fix for fast weight loss, but reality is, it isn’t that fast, or easy. Pounds often come bouncing back faster than they were lost. Fad diets are not healthy. Period.
Many of these diets don’t work and can be dangerous, since they are normally based on pretty strange ideas, like the following:
1-The Baby Food Diet:
Let’s begin with the obvious, baby food is for babies, and while some are known to snack on baby food, others are known to make it the main part of their diet.
This diet involves eating meals of pureed fruits and vegetables, and yes there is nothing wrong with it, if you are an infant, but adults don’t have the same nutritional needs as babies. Also adult teeth need to chew to remain strong.
2-The Sleeping Beauty Diet:
This particular fad lives by the saying “It’s difficult to eat when you’re fast asleep.” Its based on being heavily sedated for a few days to sleep off a few pounds. First of all, of many things wrong with this, starving yourself will put your brain into starvation mode, slowing down your metabolism. Sleeping Beauty is not a real person. Even people in a coma are given a balanced mix of proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to maintain health.
3-The Grapefruit Diet:
This diet is based solely on the idea that grapefruits help you burn fat, scientific evidence states the fat burning potential is the same in all citrus fruit. Instead eat plenty of lean protein, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits as a daily healthy diet, results guaranteed.
4-The Pasta-Chocolate Diet:
What you are doing here is replacing important nutrients with sweets, doesn’t bode well for your health. You are only allowed to have 1-ounce pasta for lunch and dinner, and some popcorn with a bit of chocolate, there is nothing healthy or balanced about this.
5-The Air Diet:
The Air Diet mimics the act of eating by requiring you to hold real food next to your mouth without ingestion. Aha, crazy don’t you think, easier to change the diet name to anorexia.
6-The Cabbage Soup Diet:
The Cabbage Soup Diet is meant to be a 7 day quick fix where you can only eat fruit, vegetables, and of course, cabbage soup. Seems like a healthy diet, but since you are lacking nutrients the weight you’ll actually lose is simply water weight that can be gained faster that the time spent losing it.
7-The Zen Diet:
Simple as eating food in its natural state and avoiding red meat. As much as it sounds appealing, this diet does not allow dairy and eliminates most forms of protein which are necessary for muscle repair, building bones, and brain chemistry.
8-The Chicken Soup Diet:
The golden rule is that you’re allowed one breakfast per day and you can eat as much chicken soup as you want until the next sunrise, similar to the cabbage soup version, you end up eating lots in the morning and losing tons of water weight.
9-The 3-Day Hot Dog Diet:
This fad only allows you to eat two hot dogs (really, hot dogs?) on the second night. It calls for dieters to eat regular foods such as tuna, cottage cheese, fruits and vegetables, and even instructs you to have 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream every night.
10-The Magnetic Diet:
The power of magnetism can help you to keep off weight, if done right, but this diet practices clearly state it’s just a catchy, new-age name for eating a balanced diet, reducing sugar intake and training your brain to think healthy.
11-The Five Bite Diet:
This diet is all about portion control. Dieters are told to drink lots of water in between meals while only eating five bites of food for lunch and dinner, in the long it will only cause your metabolism to slow down, and weight can easily be gained.
12-The Cotton Ball Diet:
You eat cotton balls before each meal as they’re high in fiber and will curb cravings and prevent you from overeating. Eating cotton balls will simply cause an array of digestive problems.
13-The Tapeworm Diet:
Dieters ingest ineffective beef tapeworm eggs and take medicine to kill the tapeworm once they’ve lost the desired amount of weight.
