Time for God, Time for Me

Whether you call Him God, Yahweh, Allah, your Higher Power, or anything else is irrelevant to my point. the point is to commune with the Holy Spirit however you see Him. For spiritual growth it is necessary to have “alone time” with your Creator every day, essential for growth and even to stay at the same place. Usually 10-15 minutes a day is sufficient, once a week make more, it’s a personal decision, the benefits last way longer than the 24 hours or so until next time.

How you do it is up to you, whenever you can spare a few minutes with no distractions, turn your phone off, no TV, etc. I like to start off my mornings with a chapter or 2 or 3 in the Bible with my first cup of coffee, I then have my first daily chat with God, asking for help throughout the coming day, and to express gratitude for all the good things in my life. Also, at night I read a bit from each of 5 books on my bedside table that I find spiritually enlightening, thought-provoking, or just make me feel good. Your daily chats with god are such a small thing to give back to a Creator who loves you more than you can begin to imagine.

Spending time with God every day helps me to feel more centered, calm, and at peace with myself and the world around me. I am also reminded daily of the multitude of gifts that are in my life every day, even when I do not always see them, I have actually felt bereft and alone until I start thanking God for my blessings which then overwhelm me, so much evidence of how very much I am loved.

Time of day is not important, how you do it is not important, the only thing that matters is that you take the time to do it, and do it on a regular basis. It’s a gift of your love and devotion to God, but you reap all the benefits and then some.
