Parsley has a range of health benefits that many people are probably not aware of.  Most significantly, it can help to reduce inflammation so can improve symptoms of arthritis. This is due to an oil called eugenol which can help to prevent swelling in the joints. Fish is often discussed for its health benefits due to its inclusion of omega 3 and amino acids. Salmon in particular is rich in minerals such as calcium and vitamins A and B. What The Color Of Your Mucus Says About Your Health

For centuries, people have been observing the color of expulsed phlegm to determine the condition of their body’s health. Although medical science has through research studies determined otherwise, as we cover in our article below, the habit continues to modern times. Be it as it is, there are several color ranges of phlegm which we list below, including:

Clear sputum

The most common form of phlegm and generally the most harmless, as when produced by a cold, allergy or some kind of irritant, this is produced 24/7. If left to its own devices, this phlegm many times goes down the back of one’s throat and eventually down to the stomach where it’s dissolved.

White or gray

White or gray phlegm usually means that there is a respiratory infection present, a sinus congestion condition or that it’s simply caused by body tissue that has become inflamed eventually stopping the natural flow of mucus

Green or dark-yellow

While this is many times considered an indication of some viral or bacterial infection, it can also be a positive sign: the immune system may be launching its anti-infection cells in a counter-attack against an invading infection.

In one research study from Düsseldorf, Germany, a total of 42 GP practices were studied. Participants were ages 16 to 82. In various samplings of both green or yellow cultures of sputum, only 12 percent indicated a bacterial infection.

Consequently, there were no conclusive findings that suggested that yellowish or greenish sputum is a strong enough diagnostic sign of a bacterial infection. The findings of this study couldn’t be used to confirm bacterial bronchitis or used as a basis for or against antibiotic therapy.

Typically found expulsed by smokers, a combination of tar, nicotine and resins accumulate in the bronchial and lung passages producing this colored sputum. Other possible causes of brown phlegm are acid reflux when you’ve been drinking red wine, chocolate or coffee. Likewise, extensive drinking, environmental toxins, and even a possible infection are other possible causes of brown colored phlegm.

This can be tricky as pink may be an indicator of some pulmonary infection or that a nasal tissue or vessel has broken and formed a leak into the mucus.

Blood or Black:

Get to a physician immediately.

Natural Treatments In Case of Phlegm:

Americans are estimated to have about two colds a year with a total price of about $40 billion per year in OTC products sold. Below are six things that you can do that’ll cost a lot less and do a lot more to help during a cold:

1- Drink plenty of sugar-free liquids such as hot chicken broth or soup and herbal teas to thin out the phlegm.

2- Hold off from dairy products as dairy tends to increase mucus. You may try almond or coconut milk instead.

3- Try adding eucalyptus oil to a pot of boiling hot water, then throwing a towel over your head as you lean over the pot inhaling deeply.

4- Adding a teaspoon of turmeric or ginger to half a glass of hot water with lemon zest and lemon juice can help. Both spices contain antiseptic properties that fight infections.

5- Eat spicy hot food such as hot chili peppers to loosen up the mucus. You may also try a combination of raw garlic boiled with chicken broth and let stand for several minutes.

6- Get plenty of sun, about 10 minutes a day or more. Also, take plenty of Vitamin D as studies indicate a correlation between low levels of Vitamin D and respiratory infections.

Do you make a habit of checking out what you cough up or would you rather not?

10 Unexpected Things That Might Be Causing Your Terrible Headache!

No one likes to get headaches. Some can be very painful and last a long time. As many as 47 percent of people worldwide will get one this year, reports the World Health Organization. While everyone will have headaches sooner or later, most people may not realize just how many things there are that will cause them.

Here are 10 things that you might not suspect.

1. Various foods. Some foods that often trigger headaches include processed foods, cheeses, and salty foods. Chocolate may also be behind them, too, and MSG. Noah Rosen, MD, who is the director of the Headache Institute at North Shore-LIJ Health System in Long Island, N.Y., says that many other foods also could act as a trigger.

Vile Things That Might Be Causing That Terrible Headache

2. Beverages. Migraine headaches can be caused by several types of drinks, particularly alcoholic ones. Drinks that contain a lot of caffeine can have the same effect.

3. Being too heavy. Recent research indicates that when some women have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, there is a 35 percent greater likelihood of headaches. When BMI is greater than 40, the risk of headaches jumps to 80 percent.

4. Pain medication. Using too much over-the-counter pain medications has been found to be behind 50 percent of migraines, and as much as 25 percent of all other headaches. Taking pain medication three days a week for ongoing periods may make you subject to them.

5. Being hungry or dehydrated. Although the reason is not understood, research has repeatedly revealed that going without a meal or water is connected to headaches in many people who suffer from them.

6. Environmental factors. Several factors in your environment may be behind your headaches. This could include tobacco smoke, strong odors from chemicals such as cleaners and perfumes, pollution, and too much noise.

7. Physical exercise. A little more than one-third of those who suffer from migraines find that high-intensity exercise can trigger an attack. For them, the pain often begins with pain in the neck. This often led to having to quit the activity.

8. Fasting. Going without food for a period of time is a common headache trigger. In fact, it is the trigger most commonly reported when it comes to diet-related issues, one Brazilian study reported.

9. Pollen and other types of allergens. When allergens are present, this can lead to headaches in some people who are susceptible. It includes allergens such as molds, ragweed, and dust.

10. Potentially serious health problems. Many health problems can cause headaches, and if they started suddenly without evident reasons, you should see a doctor. A few possible causes include high blood pressure, brain tumor, sleep apnea, bleeding in the brain, and more.

Although migraine headaches may not be altogether prevented, they may be able to be greatly reduced. Simply cut back on the triggers and you are apt to discover that you experience headaches much less often.

Fortunately, there are several natural foods that have been found to be very helpful in reducing body weight. Top in the list is the coconut that has been used across different cultures for centuries. Coconut contains medium chain triglycerides (MCT) which are a particular class of fats required by the body to provide energy. Unlike other oils, MCT oils do not store as fat in the body therefore they do not contribute to weight gain. These oils accelerate the rate of fat metabolism thereby causing weight loss.

Natural coconut can be consumed in various forms. The most common is raw coconut whereby the flesh of the nut is consumed in whole. Coconut also contains the sap that is used to make baked products and other dishes such as the rice. In other cultures, the kernel is dried and packaged; it is also ground and used as a thickener especially for soups. Top 4 Hot Beverages for Melting Belly Fat Fast

With so many yummy treats in the world, it’s hard to stay fit and skinny. As the number of desk jobs rise, and television shows get increasingly addictive, we tend to spend more time on our bottoms. While enjoying television and indulging in chocolate covered strawberries is wonderful, it can leave us with some extra fat. To remedy the fat, the world tells us to work-out, which we should. However, we don’t all have time to hit the gym five days a week and once or twice a week, may not be cutting it. Fear not. Research now suggests that certain kinds of tea can actually help us burn fat! Here are four teas to try if you’re trying to get rid of a little extra fat

Green Tea

Green tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. This plant is believed to be originally indigenous to China, though it is also associated with many other Asian cultures. Today, green tea is enjoyed through most parts of the world and is known for its health benefits through naturally occurring antioxidants and micro nutrients that can help keep off the flu and protect your cardiovascular health. While most people know that green tea is good for them, not everyone knows that one of its many antioxidants can help bring in their waistline, too. Epigallocatechin gallate, helps boost metabolism of fat cells. This antioxidant helps boost norepinephrine which is used by the nervous system to signal the breakdown of fat cells. More norepinephrine, equals more fat cells being broken down. The best brands to purchase are those that contain no artificial flavors or sweeteners. Yogi’s a nice brand consider.Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks to green tea. Green tea does contain caffeine, so drinking an excessive amount at one time can lead to the jitters. Green tea can also reduce nonheme iron absorption. You can help remedy this by consuming extra vitamin c because vitamin c boosts iron absorption.

Pu-erh tea

This is a tea most people are unfamiliar with. With its roots in the Chinese province of Yunan, Pu-erh tea slows the process of fatty acid synthase in our bodies. This FAS plays a key role in the body’s production of fat cells. Less fat cells mean less fat. It is believed the tea inhibits FAS because of the process through which it is fermented. Good brands to try, include Rishi and Yunnan. As with most tea, Pu-erh contains caffeine so it should not be consumed in large doses. Additionally, it can cause an upset stomach in people who have ulcers or other gastrointestinal ailments.

Hibiscus tea

Unlike its tea brothers, Hibiscus tea originated in Egypt with the Pharaohs. Today it is enjoyed all over the world. Aside from being loaded with antioxidants, this tea contains phaseolamin, an enzyme inhibitor which helps reduce the production of amylase. Amylase breaks down carbs in our bodies, turning it to fat. Tazo and Alvita are both good tea brands. There are several potential side effects of drinking hibiscus tea. It can interfere with certain blood pressure medications. It may also cause issues with the body’s natural production of estrogen and reproductive cycles. Consumed in large amounts, this tea may also have hallucinatory effects on the user.

This type of tea grows wild in various sunny areas throughout the world. It has been said to encourage weight loss by staving off cravings, helping to control an unhealthy eating amount. Additionally, it works as a diuretic and natural laxative to keep your body cleansed of excess fat, toxins and water. Try Buddha or Alvita Chickweed tea.Chickweed is not known for an abundance of side effects, however it may cause dermatitis. It may also be an allergen for people with allergies to the daisy family of flowers.Stop stressing over those extra pounds. Enjoy yourself a natural, flavorful cup of tea and start cutting down that excess fat.

10 Foods That Scientifically Alter Your Mood

The food you eat fuels your body, but it also does much more. Certain foods are known to affect mood levels and emotional responses. Here are just a few foods that scientific research has found to affect people in profound ways:

10 Foods That Scientifically Alter Your Mood

1 – Chocolate
Chocolate contains very small concentrations of compounds that act as stimulants and even as psychoactive agents. Anandamines in chocolate stimulate the brain in much the same way as phenyethylamine, tyramine and cannabis. This effect can help to alleviate depression, anger, boredom or fatigue.

2 – Caffeine
Coffee’s ability to increase alertness and focus is legendary. Scientists now understand that the caffeine in coffee or cola drinks blocks adenosine receptors in the brain, which can lift mood, reduce drowsiness and relieve headaches.

3 – Fish
Fish as brain food has been a standard truism, but the science backs up its reputation as a brain enhancer. Fish contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, sources of docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid. These are critical compounds in brain development and can help to regulate mood.

4 – Turkey
The compound in turkey that makes you sleepy after a big Thanksgiving meal can also be used to regulate mood. Tryptophan changes the concentration of amino acids in the bloodstream, which then stimulates serotonin synthesis to produce a feeling of relaxation and calm.

5 – Blueberries
Blueberries are touted for their antioxidant content, which can help fight disease, but these brightly colored berries also contain compounds that can make you feel happier. The anthocyanins in blueberries can help to block enzymes that contribute to anxiety and depression.

6 – Spinach
The famous green vegetable from the Popeye cartoons contains iron, which can provide energy. It also contains magnesium that both increases energy and alleviates depression.

7 – Beans
Beans are one of a number of foods that are high in folate. Scientific research has found that depression is linked to low folate levels. Increase your consumption of protein-rich beans can help to ward off the blues.

8 – Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is higher in protein than conventional yogurt. Foods that are high in protein can help combat fatigue and low mood.

9 – Banana
If you feel tired and out of sorts, have a banana, which contains carbohydrates to boost energy and copper that can help lift your emotions.

10 – Whole-wheat Bread
If the winter doldrums have you down, eat a slice of whole-wheat bread, which contains healthy carbohydrates for energy and compounds that increase dopamine in the brain to help regulate your emotions.

7 Secrets The Weight loss Industry Doesn’t Want You To Know

Eat right, exercise – weight loss is simple, right? Not exactly. There are so many conflicting tips out there that it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not. Plus, the weight loss industry’s loudest mouths are often delivering the wrong information. Here are seven secrets that major players in the diet industry don’t want you to know.

Secrets The Weight loss Industry Doesn't Want You To Know

1. Exercise Alone Won’t Help You Lose Weight

Some trainers claim that their special workout routine or gadget will burn off all the calories you need to cut – a claim that’s simply silly and impossible. The only way to lose weight and keep it off via exercise is to blend that working out with a sensible diet plan – period.

2. You Need Fat In Your Diet

Fat gets a bad rap, to be honest. The truth is that fat in general isn’t the enemy. Olive oil, avocados, fish, nuts… these things have plenty of good fat that your body needs to keep you feeling full. This type of fat will help you shed the pounds, not pack them on.

3. Dairy Can Help You Lose Weight

There are a lot of health “experts” out there who shun dairy because they claim that it makes people fat and that the body can’t process dairy the right way. When you have a calcium deficiency, though, you can gain weight, not lose it. Healthy dairy, like yogurt and low-fat cheese, can help with a weight loss regime thanks to the calcium these foods have.

4. Chocolate Isn’t Bad For You… Quite the Opposite, Actually!

Hershey bars in general aren’t a health food, but dark chocolate (high in cocoa, low in sugar and milk) is packed with antioxidants. When you eat dark chocolate in moderation, it can help you to lose weight. Plus, antioxidants keep arteries healthy and help your body fight fat deposits. Add unsweetened cocoa to recipes and get some dark chocolate squares when you need a fix.

5. Fidgeting Zaps Calories

Don’t sit still, no matter what your mother always told you – people who move around a lot burn a ton of calories. Even little motions, like tapping and squirming, can contribute to weight loss.

6. Air Filters Can Help You Lose Weight

According to a study from the College of Public Health at Ohio State University, being exposed to air pollution can make a person resistant to insulin, reduce their tolerance for glucose and add to inflammation. Air filters get rid of toxins and chemicals in the air, which helps ward off obesity.

7. 30 Minutes of Exercise Isn’t Enough

Exercising for half an hour a few days a week may be enough to keep your heart healthy, but it’s not nearly enough if you’re trying to slim down. People who are on a weight loss journey should work out for one hour most days a week (or every day, if you can swing it).

Spinning Chocolate Joy

Is there anything better than chocolate? No.

Ever since the Aztecs declared that cacao seeds were bestowed upon humans by the god of wisdom, we have known that chocolate is inherently magical. But…could we have possibly imagined just how magical?

Spinning Chocolate Joy

We now know definitively that there is nothing more exquisite than chocolate figurines spinning around, creating optical illusions in HD. With chicks and eggs that appear to leap and dip, this video is a vision of chocolate heaven. Enjoy the visuals as your mouth waters at the thought of creamy, delicious chocolate leaping out of the spinning formation…and into your mouth!
