Coital Regret Differs Between Men And Women

Coital Regret Differs Between Men And Women. We have all had them. There’s the one that got away and then the one who didn’t. But the real question is from whence does it all the regret regarding lovemaking and related gender differences come?

According to recent research conducted by an investigative team at the University of Texas at Austin, both men and women have regrets about lovemaking but the regrets themselves vary according to gender. The study reports for example that both genders regret making love with someone who was not really physically attractive. It also notes that 24 percent of females regret losing their virginity to the wrong man while 27 percent of males regret not taking advantage of the opportunity to have make love with a specific woman.

What else did women regret? According to the study, additional regrets for women moving too fast in terms of lovemaking and cheating on a previous partner. What did men regret?

Research reveals that men had regretted not being as intimately adventurous as they could have been when they were single and/or younger. Interestingly, gay men, lesbians, and “bi” individuals exhibited a similar pattern of regrets. Martie Haselton, a UCLA social psychology professor said in a press release:

“For men throughout evolutionary history, every missed opportunity to have [coitus] with a new partner is potentially a missed reproduc[tion] opportunity — a costly loss from an evolutionary perspective.”

For this research project, they held a trio of experiments. The first experiment included 200 subjects who evaluated hypothetical scenes wherein a person regretted pursuing another or was unable to take the opportunity to engage in coitus. Next, they were told to rate their regret on a scale of one to five.

The second one asked 395 volunteers write a list of what they thought were common regrets about lovemaking. The researcher then asked the participants to point out which common regrets they had personally experienced themselves. The last experiment was like the previous experiment but with 24,230 “hetero”, “bi”, and gay respondents.

Haselton noted that the results were the same. He stated: “For women, reproduction requires much more investment in each offspring, including nine months of pregnancy, and potentially two additional years of breastfeeding.” He added: “The consequences of casual [coitus] were so much higher for women than for men, and this is likely to have shaped emotional reactions to [lovemsking] liaisons even today.”

The research team speculated that this could very well be why other research studies have discovered a relationship between depression and having casual coitus, especially at a younger age. Assistant professor of human sciences at Ohio State, Claire Kamp Dush, stated in a press release concerning the study that casual coital relationships have the potential to actually damage young adults’ ability to nurture committed relationships at a significant moment in their own development. It could also negatively impact on an individual’s chance to truly comprehend the significations of coitus in order to rightly select the appropriate partner–in terms of evolution.

The regrets may seem somewhat antiquated or old-fashioned because we are no longer the hunter-gatherers we once were and yet the overall mindset of the reported regrets about lovemaking seems to have connections to our ancestral links. Haselton concludes: “We have reliable methods of contraception. But that doesn’t seem to have erased the [gender] differences in women’s and men’s responses, which might have a deep evolutionary history.”

So what have we learned? Perhaps our regrets regarding lovemaking are somewhat genetically embedded in us all. Perhaps men and women all have the regrets they do because that is just the way they have always behaved and thought. Perhaps both the similarities and differences–often common regardless of intimate orientation–are universal.

3 Forgotten Essential Thyroid Diet Principles

Subclinical hypothyroidism is rampant in many nations due to high stress levels and inadequate diets. As people become fatigued and overweight, they tend to turn to fad diets, “cleanses” and other extreme measures, often not even aware that it’s their thyroid that is causing the problem. As you will read below, these extreme measures may do more harm than good in the long run and can become especially damaging to your thyroid and liver. Instead of taking the unhealthy route, try these 3 essential thyroid diet principles to help your body naturally achieve its best thyroid function.

Keep Your Blood Sugar Stable
Blood sugar balance is essential, but keeping blood sugar stable is harder than it sounds. Most people only worry about the dangers of high blood sugar because this can cause diabetes, but low blood sugar can be just as harmful. This is because your brain absolutely must maintain a constant blood sugar supply for it to function. If you don’t have enough sugar in your brain, then your body goes into survival mode to preserve brain function and a backup process called gluconeogenesis takes over. When you are in gluconeogenesis, healthy muscle tissue breaks down to release amino acids. These acids are then converted in the liver to glucose that your brain can use.

This might not be so bad, but we must over-produce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline to push this process. These stress hormones have the unfortunate side effect of blocking your liver’s process that converts thyroid hormones into T3, the active form that your body needs. Worse, neither you or your doctor are likely to discover that you are lacking in this active thyroid form because the most common thyroid tests only check for the precursor thyroid hormones and not active T3 levels. The result is that you have all the symptoms of an underactive thyroid, including hair loss, weight gain, fatigue, cold sensitivity and depression, but you don’t know why you feel bad.

Take in Adequate Micronutrients

Your thyroid needs sufficient micronutrients to produce the hormones you need. If you don’t have these essential elements, your body will be forced to make the unpleasant choice of using those elements for other vital processes or producing these hormones. If you don’t produce enough, your metabolism, body temperature regulation, growth and development will suffer. Supplements can help, but the best way to get these nutrients is with a healthy diet. Here are some of the most important nutrients you need for your thyroid and the foods that can boost your intake:
Selenium: brazil nuts, grass-fed beef, halibut, turkey and chicken. Brazil nuts have the highest benefit, containing 544 mcg in just 6 to 8 nuts. That’s more than 100% of your daily need.

Iodine: dried seaweed, yogurt, turkey breast, navy beans and eggs. Dried seaweed is the best source, providing 4500 mcg in just 1/4 ounce, again, more than 100% of your daily need.
Zinc: oysters, beef, wheat germ, spinach and pumpkin seeds. Oysters are the best source, giving you 33 mg of zinc in just 6 oysters. That’s 220% of your daily need.

B vitamins (all of them): B1-whole grain and leafy greens; B2-chicken, fish and leafy greens; B3-chicken, fish and legumes; folic acid-leafy greens, liver and legumes; B12-chicken, fish and eggs; biotin-salmon, pork and avocado; Pantothenic acid-yogurt, avocado and legumes.

Antioxidants: Goji berries (both delicious and extremely high in antioxidants), dark chocolate, pecans and artichokes.

You will notice that many of these important nutrients are present in meat and fish. This is just one of the reasons that vegans can have as much trouble keeping up their thyroid health as low-carb dieters, which leads to our next important principle.

Support the Detoxification Process (Without Pushing It)

You need a very balanced diet to support the detoxification process. Simply trying to do a detox while continuously adding new stressors will not get you the results you want. Any diet on the extreme edge of the spectrum is unhealthy and can throw your liver and thyroid out of balance. Low Carb diets promote hypothyroidism by denying your body glycogen. Glycogen is needed to produce glucuronic acid, which detoxifies thyroid suppressive hormones such as estrogen. On the other extreme, purely vegan diets deny our thyroids the 70 to 100 grams of high quality protein our thyroid needs to function at its best. A thyroid-healthy diet will contain all the nutrients that you need in the right proportions to avoid taxing your system. This gives your liver and thyroid a more gentle and effective way to recover while allowing you to detoxify thyroid suppressing hormones naturally.

The method listed above may feel slower and take more effort than a quick detox or fad diet, but it’s actually much more effective in the long run. When coupled with alcohol moderation, smoking cessation and daily physical activity, the long-term results will be a healthier, happier you.

What Getting Spanked As a Kid Did To Your Personality According To Science

The effectiveness of spanking children is currently a hotly debated subject all over the world. Most people who are more than 30 years old grew up getting spanked, although mostly for extreme transgressions. Most of them are now parents and some are wondering whether spanking our kids is effective. As a result, a lot of people turn towards science for answers.

It turns out that spanking might actually hurt, and it could be in more than just the physical sense. Instead of encouraging children to fall in line, science shows that spanking generally makes children more rebellious.

The Journal of Family Psychology recently published a study concluded by University of Michigan and University of Texas experts. The study analyzed five decades of spanking research that represented approximately 160,000 children. It found that kids spanked on a regular basis are more likely to defy their parents. They are also more liable to increased anti-social behavior, cognitive difficulties, aggression, and mental health issues. Chances are therefore high that getting spanked as a kid did you no good. In fact, this new research suggests that spanking probably worsened your behavior.

playful preschooler covering eyes with sweater for fun peekaboo game

Spanking is defined as hitting the behind or extremities with an open hand and not what can be considered abusive. As such, the study’s focus was on what the majority of Americans would recognize as spanking as opposed to potentially abusive behaviors.

The results were not good
The study’s authors, Elizabeth Gershoff and Andrew Grogan-Kaylor, discovered something disturbing. The more an adult was spanked as a child, the more likely they are to develop various negative outcomes later in life. According to Elizabeth Gershoff, spanking is associated with unintended detrimental results. Additionally, spanking does not associate with either immediate or long-term compliance, which are the intended outcomes of parental discipline. Adults spanked as kids are also more likely to either punish their own kids physically or support the practice. The cycle goes on and on.

It actually gets worse
Grogan-Kaylor and Elizabeth Gershoff also compared spanking’s negative effects with the adverse impact of physical abuse on children. According to the news release, both practices were associated with the same undesired and harmful outcomes. Gershoff stated that as a society, we generally think of physical abuse and spanking as distinct behaviors. The research indicates that physical abuse and spanking are associated with the same negative outcomes in children. However, the effect of spanking is to a slightly lesser degree.

Regardless of this, spanking continues
In 2010, University of North Carolina researchers published the findings of a survey conducted in 2002 on corporal punishment. Approximately 80% of preschoolers in the United States experienced spanking as a mode of discipline. In addition, nearly half of the children between eight and nine years old were hit with objects like paddles and switches. According to NBC News, a 2013 poll found 81% of Americans think it is sometimes appropriate for parents to spank their children.

It is understandable that these numbers might sound high. However, NBC News also reported that corporal punishment practiced inside homes is technically legal in every state. While statutes vary from state to state, the consensus is that physical punishment has to be reasonable and not excessive. This agreement still stands although in 2012 the state of Delaware passed a law saying it couldn’t cause any pain or injury. Additionally, proposed legislative bans have failed to pass in several states, and courts generally uphold parents’ right to spank.

These researchers hope that parents will think twice about spanking their children after seeing the findings of this study. Gershoff said that they hope their study helps to educate every parent about the potential harms of spanking. They also hope that the findings will prompt parents into trying non-punitive and positive forms of discipline.

Considering the potentially adverse effects of spanking, parents should seriously consider alternative modes of asserting control. This need is also emphasized by the fact that spanking has been shown to work against its intended purpose. The study reveals that spanking your children will most likely make them more defiant even though the aim is to instill discipline.

Baby Girl woke Up from Coma Defying All Medical Expectations

Imagine the trauma of having your 1-year-old daughter struggle against a deadly virus. The germ can potentially destroy her nervous system. The stress escalates when doctors advise putting her into a comatose state. You reluctantly consent, hoping the drastic measure will save her life.

Two months later, your baby is still unresponsive. Now, you’re told to just pull the plug on her life support. The doctors have given up hope for her recovery. What would you do?

This was the horrific decision facing the parents of Marwa, living in France. Meanwhile, her twin sister needed their care. Two months of hospitalization had drained the family’s finances.

Marwa appeared to be brain dead. Hospitals aren’t legally required to keep brain dead patients on life support. The staff at La Timone Hospital in Marseille was following protocol.

Medically-Induced Coma

According to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, a medically-induced coma is a procedure rendering a state of unconsciousness. The patient receives a controlled amount of anesthetic to protect their brain from swelling. The drug reduces blood flow to the brain, along with its active function.

Meanwhile, physicians constantly monitor the rest of the person’s vital systems. Additional drugs control breathing, heart rhythm, and blood pressure. Someone in this condition cannot respond to external stimuli.

Last Resort

When brain tissue drastically expands, it impairs the supply of blood and oxygen, putting additional cells at risk for death. The condition becomes life-threatening. Doctors only perform a medically-induced coma when brain swelling doesn’t respond to other treatment. With a patient unconscious, their brain can rest, allowing swelling to decrease. By reducing brain pressure, damage is less likely. However, being comatose for more than two weeks can permanently injure the nervous system.

Poor Prognosis

Marwa’s doctors feared that continuing the coma would render her nonfunctional if she did wake up. Called a persistent vegetative state, this status results from brain injury. The chance of recovering after three months of coma is highly unlikely. A person can remain in a vegetative condition for weeks, months, or years.

Marwa’s brain wasn’t responding to the coma intervention. Her doctors believed she’d suffered severe brain damage and would never be able to breathe, walk, or eat independently. The poor prognosis prompted them to advise stopping life support.

Powerful Petition

Still, it is possible for comatose patients to have their brain function restored. Marwa’s parents clung to this shred of hope. However, they needed the backing of others who shared their viewpoint. Alone, they lacked substantial clout. Would posting on Facebook help?

Dad decided to write a petition, asking the hospital to grant his daughter more time. He named the online campaign, “Not Without My Marwa.” His post called upon Facebook members for prayer, signatures, and donations. Much to the family’s surprise, the petition drew 115,000+ supporters!

Court Response

Court officials ruled in Marwa’s favor, granting the family a 2-month extension of her care on life support. Just 10 days later, the baby awoke! On November 22, 2016, dad posted a Facebook video, documenting the miraculous moment. Look at this precious face.

Defying the Odds

Dad reports that Marwa’s progress continues on a daily basis. The baby responds to Papa’s voice, sometimes sweetly smiling. Mama has stated on Facebook that all her child’s organs are functioning normally. Can you imagine the joy!

New Research

Marwa’s recovery, along with that of other comatose patients, validates recent groundbreaking news! A 2015 study proves that hearing a loved one’s voice rouses the unconscious brain and can expedite restored function.

At Hines VA Medical Center in Illinois, neuroscientist Theresa Pape and her staff enrolled 15 comatose patients in an experiment. Relatives were asked to record stories from their shared past on a CD. Hospital staff played the recordings for patients over headphones. Each patient listened to the 10-minute stories four times a day for six weeks.

MRI images showed the subjects’ brains lighting up in response. Red and yellow patterns on the films represented increased neural activity. The activated regions involved language and memory processing, showing higher oxygen levels. Though the patients outwardly appeared brain dead, they were alive! Here’s a video clip of the extraordinary outcome of one study participant.

Exciting Conclusions

Comatose patients hearing loved ones’ stories awaken faster than those without this point of contact. They also have better outcomes. Listening to relatives’ voices stimulates brain circuits that store long-term memories. Consequently, patients become conscious of their environment and start speaking. They achieve the first step of recovery!

Dr. Pape reports that after “voice treatments,” patients progress to participating in speech, physical, and occupational therapy. Such intervention is vital to restoring physical function. Voice treatments also benefit families who otherwise feel helpless. Making the recordings involves them in their loved one’s recovery. Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair published the brain study in its January 22, 2015 issue.

Revamping Rehab

In the US, traumatic brain injury (TBI) befalls one person every five seconds. A devastating event, it’s a common consequence of motor vehicle accidents, violent assaults, and bomb traumas during military service. The VA study is revolutionizing the medical approach used for TBI patients.

You Can Help

Since this diagnosis is increasing in frequency, you’re likely to encounter someone who’s suffered a blow to the head. Here’s how you can aid an affected family.

Save this article to your computer, and print it for those involved in the patient’s medical care.
Advise the patient’s family to contact the hospital’s physical therapy department. Therapy professionals can help families construct voice treatments and oversee their implementation.
Tell family members to review their photo albums and past events shared with their loved one. If you know the patient personally, recount your favorite times together. Then, record a narration of meaningful moments, such as when you both attended a wedding, party, or vacation. Infuse the stories with what you each saw, felt, smelled, touched, or tasted. Involving the senses brings memories to life.
For example, you might recall a day at the beach, soaking up the sun’s warmth, inhaling the salty air, jumping over waves, hitting a volleyball, and relishing an egg salad sandwich. Write down at least eight stories, and practice reciting them until they sound natural. Then record them, using the patient’s nickname if they have one.
Bright Hope

TBI and coma don’t constitute a death sentence. Marwa’s story is a poignant testimony. The human brain is a mystery whose shadows are coming to light. Be a ray of hope for a person with TBI.

Solving the Mystery of “I’m Fine” When She’s REALLY NOT!

You’re anticipating a romantic evening with your sweetie. You found a great chick flick to watch together. You sit down on the couch next to her and gently touch her leg. Whoa! Something’s terribly wrong.

For one thing, she’s distanced herself at the very end of the couch. She’s got this pretzel posture going on with her arms. They’re defiantly crossed in front of her chest. The leg closest to you is raised high like a wall. When you touched it, she recoiled like a snake.

What Girls Really Mean When They Say Im Fine

“Honey, what’s the matter?” you venture.

“Nothing, I’m fine,” she sighs.

Huh? She’s obviously not peachy keen. She’s certainly not her normal, cheerful self. You try to find out what’s troubling her. She shuts up like a clam.

“This is heading nowhere,” you think. “What am I supposed to do?”

If you two have been close for eons, she thinks you should completely understand her. You should be like the Wizard of Oz. See all, know all, and have all the answers.

“How can she expect me to read her mind?” you ask, exasperated.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a mind-reader. You can become well-versed in body language. To get to the root of her behavior, you’ll need to be a sleuth. However, don’t get discouraged. Her mannerisms will guide you.

With passive-aggressive behavior, there’s a disconnect between what a person says and does. It’s a subtle retaliation versus being honest. Emotion is conveyed indirectly. Your honey may think that frankly expressing her feelings will only make a situation worse. Another reason for her lockjaw may be she hasn’t honed her communication skills.

Her cold shoulder is the just tip of the iceberg. There are basically 10 reasons why she’s acting like the Ice Queen.

1. She’s beat.

Sheer exhaustion could be behind “I’m fine.” She just doesn’t have the energy for an explanation of what’s wrong. The other possibility is that she didn’t sleep well the previous night.

Clues – Does her face look blanched and weary? Are there bags under her eyes?

What to Do – Ask if you can give her a massage. If the relaxation response makes her sleepy, let her take a nap. It will restore her sweet disposition in short order.

2. She wants to avoid an argument.

She may want to sidestep bickering. If the topic on her mind is a loaded one, she may feel the time isn’t right for a long discussion.

Clues – She gives you the “cut-off” glance. She turns her head or entire body away from you. She may cover her mouth with her hand. She may also display pursed lips. This is when her lips are pressed together in a formidable line.

What to Do – The topic is closed. Period. Don’t press her for details.

3. She’s so angry, she’s seeing stars.

The flip side of “I’m fine” is seething agitation. She may be feeling ballistic beyond words.

Clues – There’s a whole storm of them:

red face
squinting eyes
clenched fists
chin tilted up
swinging her leg
kicking her foot
standing up abruptly
hands on hips

What to Do – Put on your emotional armor. Brace for impact. However, try to avoid counter attacking. It will only invite more anger. Instead, listen and try to understand her point of view. Nod your head to show genuine interest. This will diffuse the steam.

4. She wants to talk but needs to be comforted first.

Clues – She’s holding her hands palm up. This indicates sincerity. She’s not withholding anything from you. Her hand is on her cheek. She’s debating whether to share her feelings.

What to Do – Enfold her in your arms. Stroke her hair. She’ll take it from there.

5. She’s stressed. It may have nothing to do with you.

Clues – She may display nervous behavior, such as nail-biting and skin-picking. She might get up and pace the room. Is she fidgeting, frequently changing position? Observe her breathing rate. Is she taking shallow breaths? She’s stressed. Is she pulling her stomach in with each inhalation? She’s struggling with anxiety.

What to Do – Help her to relax. Here are some suggestions:

Brew up some chamomile tea.
Stroke her hands.
Massage her neck or feet.
Play soothing music.
Light a fragrant candle.
Draw her a bubble bath.

6. She’s unhappy.

Your beloved may be battling the blues.

Clues – If she pinches the bridge of her nose, she may be holding back tears. Another sign is squeezing her eyes tightly shut. Look at her posture. Is she hunched forward? Is her back rounded? She’s carrying the world on her shoulders.

What to Do – Give her a consoling hug. Offer a compassionate ear. Once you learn the cause of her depression, you can take steps to resolve it.

7. She denies being upset, but she’s hiding something from you.

She may want to spare you the burden of her concerns.

Clues – While speaking, she:

covers her face with her hands
touches or rubs her nose
scratches her neck

What to Do – Gently ask her if there’s something she’s afraid to bring up. Assure her that she can discuss anything with you.

8. She’s premenstrual.

Hormones wreak havoc on a woman’s body and emotions. Most women do all they can to avoid period pitfalls. Even if your sweetie takes measures to ward off symptoms, she may still be at their mercy. She isn’t alone. An estimated 75 percent of women experience unpleasant premenstrual syndromes.

Clues – There’s a passel of them:

feeling overwhelmed
social withdrawal
mood swings

What to Do – Keep track of her menstrual course. You can do this by noting it on your private calendar. There are also free smartphone apps to help you tune into her cycle. One of them is the Clue Period Tracker. It is available for both iOS and Android. The app is designed to predict the times of PMS and menstruation. It will send you notifications announcing the segments of her cycle. Entering the data is quick and easy. For further information on the iOS version of Clue Period Tracker, click here: For the Android version, click here:

When you’re clued into the difficult times of her cycle, you can help her by:

Showering her with compliments.
Sending her text messages professing your love.
Being agreeable.
Sympathizing with her situation.
Buying her dark chocolate.

9. She’s ravenously hungry.

A hungry tummy or blood sugar dip may be making her irritable.

Clues – Signs of a drop in blood sugar are tremors, dizziness, and headache. A grumbling stomach announces hunger.

What to Do – Ask if she’s hungry or when she last ate. If it’s been a while since her last meal, quickly whip up a healthy dish or order food delivery. If she’s showing signs of hypoglycemia, offer a snack to balance her blood sugar. Here are some suggestions:

strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries
green smoothie made with spinach, kale, beets, carrots, and apples
whole-grains, such as popcorn, oatmeal, brown rice, and quinoa
whole-grain crackers and hummus
almonds, walnuts, or pistachio nuts
yogurt with fruit and cinnamon

10. She’s mentally preoccupied.

She may be rehashing a problem or event in her mind.

Clues – If she’s appears pensive or distracted, chalk her behavior up to a busy mind. Give her time to process her thoughts. Give her space to sort things out.

What to Do – In this case, it’s best to leave her alone.

Now you have the keys to unlock the mystery of her mood. It could be that she’s:

1. Exhausted
2. Avoiding an argument
3. Angry beyond words
4. In need of nurturing
5. Stressed
6. Depressed
7. Hiding something
8. Premenstrual
9. Starved
10. Preoccupied

Whatever the reason, you’ve got the tools to keep things cool. So don’t sweat it, brother. Just go undercover. Once you spot the clues, you’ll know what to do.

Here’s wishing all the best to your honey and you.

Beat Your Chances of Divorce by Getting Married at this Age!

We all know the stereotype of the young lovers who marry after a whirlwind romance and end up divorced within 5 years. This sad tale isn’t just a stereotype – it’s been backed by science. Studies have shown that 60% of marriages between spouses aged 20-25 end in divorce.

Beat Your Chance of Divorce by Getting Married at this Age

Of course, this is nothing new, and we all certainly have one friend or relative who we’ve helped through such a break up. The latest research is a bit more surprising. While we may think that couples who wait to get married are more likely to stay together, new studies showed this isn’t quite true.

Couples who marry past their early 30s are more likely to get divorced than the median population, with an added 5% risk for every year after 32. While more research needs to be conducted in order to find out why, scientists have already begun offering theories. For example, older unmarried people can often be “congenitally cantankerous.” That is, they’re just not suited to long-term relationships, and don’t have the predilection toward marriage that younger-marrying couples do. There’s also the fact that older people have a smaller pool of potential mates, making an imperfect match more likely.

Couples who marry between 28-32 are said to be in the perfect range to stay married, in keeping with the “Goldilocks Theory”. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the average age of marriage for women is 27, and the age for men is 29 .

Much has been made of the fact that couples are waiting to get married later and later as the decades pass, and there are multiple credible reasons as to why. One revolves around the increased rate of college attendance for both genders. After all, it’s pretty hard to balance a full course load or a thesis with wedding preparations. There’s also the increasing emphasis on careers for both spouses – a key factor as women become an ever-growing percentage of the workforce.

Looking at the data, however, it seems that today’s couples are simply waiting until they’re truly ready for marriage before tying the knot. On average, at least.

divorce infographic__1438395290_173.199.221.90

There is still hope for couples who get married outside of the ideal ages. Moreover, couples who get married between ages 28 and 32 are still at a 50% risk to get divorced. One proven method of creating a lasting relationship is to seek relationship counseling before the wedding. This sort of relationship therapy builds communication and techniques that will keep couples happy well into their later years. Seeking relationship advice can be difficult when it comes to certain topics, but is almost essential for couples who want to stay together “til death do you part.”

If You Have Digestion Problems Drink This!

Do you plan your day around your bathroom breaks? Do you turn down invitations because you’re afraid you’ll have an accident in public? If you’re plagued by diarrhea and other digestive problems, you are far from alone.

If You Have Digestion Problems Drink This

Stomach problems are never fun, especially when they happen all the time. Many things can interfere with digestion including food bacteria, infections, medications and chronic conditions like Crohn’s disease or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Stress also plays a role.

Your doctor can recommend diets or prescribe medications to improve your dilemma and treat your pain. However, you can take steps of your own to make it through the day with a little more ease and comfort. In fact, you may be able to drink your way to better digestion.

Hydrate With Pure Water

Water is essential for good health, and it’s the most natural way to treat your digestive problems. Water improves bowel function by keeping stools soft, solid and well-formed. Coffee and soft drinks cause can constipation or diarrhea.

When diarrhea strikes, drinking more water can prevent dehydration. Sports drinks are a good alternative since they help replace lost minerals called electrolytes. Caffeine and alcohol keep you dehydrated and make your digestive problems worse.

Drinking more water is the best way to increase your fluid intake during hot weather and physical workouts. Fruit juices are another healthy way to sneak more water into your day if your stomach can tolerate them. To prevent “traveler’s diarrhea,” drink bottled water and juices.

Brew Fresh Ginger Tea

Ginger tea is another natural way to treat stomach problems. This popular folk remedy treats upset stomach, nausea and vomiting. Research shows that ginger improves saliva flow and aids digestion.

Ginger helps nausea caused by pregnancy, vertigo, surgery and chemotherapy. It also reduces digestive symptoms associated with menstrual periods and menopause. Even stress responds to a refreshing cup of ginger tea.

Start with one tablespoon of peeled, grated or sliced ginger root placed in a cup. Boil 2 cups of filtered water and pour it over the ginger. Cover the cup and steep the tea for about 10 minutes. Add one tablespoon each of lemon juice and raw honey, and enjoy the treat.

Enjoy Some Mint, Too

Peppermint is a natural herb, and the leaf and oil of the peppermint plant have medicinal properties. Peppermint tea can soothe a host of digestive ills including heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, morning sickness, stomach cramps, IBS, diarrhea and gas. It may also improve the flow of bile, which aids digestion.

Peppermint tea is easy to make. All you need is a cup of water and a few peppermint leaves or a teaspoon of dried peppermint. Add the peppermint to one cup of boiling water, cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. You can also chew on peppermint leaves to ease your stomach pains.

They lived in a home in Cranston, RI. In 2006, they decided to convert a loft space in Providence to suit their needs. The loft cost $600,000, and the renovations cost the same. They wouldn’t divorce and live apart, they would carve a life for themselves in this new space to suit their needs. They created two distinct, separate loft areas. Each area has a work space, living and sleeping space as well as a kitchen. The lofts are separated by doors and a hallway. While Allison likes a minimalist space, John likes a large open area. How to Stop Your Body from Attacking Yourself:

The human immune system is a master defense system. It protects your body against viruses, bacteria and other foreign invaders. A critical part of the immune system is the ability to distinguish between normal cells and invaders. This function relies on the ability to identify certain proteins called antigens.

Before you were born, immune cells that may have recognized body tissues were destroyed to prevent tissue damage later. The lack of reaction to your own body cells is called tolerance. Autoimmune disease causes immune cells to mistake normal cells for invaders. As a result, your immune system attacks your own body.

How to Stop Your Body from Attacking Yourself

A virus or other infectious organism can also fool your immune system into thinking that part of your body is foreign. This breaks tolerance and causes the immune cells to attack your body instead of the infection. A loss of tolerance is likely due to genetics.

Examples of Autoimmune Disease

According to health writers at the Mayo Clinic, 80 percent of people affected by autoimmune disease are women. Some disorders are more prevalent in women, while others affect women exclusively. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) calls autoimmunity a major health issue that is responsible for many chronic conditions.

Immune deficiencies decrease the body’s ability to fight infection. An unknown trigger can stimulate the production of antibodies that attack normal cells instead of foreigners. Grave’s disease, Hashimoto’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), lupus, multiple sclerosis (MS), psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and Type 1 diabetes are examples of autoimmune disorders.

Healing for Autoimmune Disease

If you suffer from immune deficiency, you are not alone. According to NIH estimates, 23.5 million Americans have autoimmune disorders. The American Autoimmune Related Disease Association (AARDA) thinks the number may be as high as 50 million. Symptoms can affect all parts of your body and may require treatment by a specialist.

Treatments generally focus on ways to relieve symptoms and reduce immune system activity. Dr. Mark Hyman, writing for the “Elephant” health journal, suggests several ways to heal autoimmune disease. Here are 9 things to consider:

1. Ask your doctor to check for Lyme disease, yeast infections or other hidden infections.
2. Ask your doctor to check for hidden food allergies, or try a diet designed to eliminate allergens.
3. Request a blood test to check for celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.
4. Certain metals can cause autoimmunity, so request a test for heavy metal toxicity.
5. Heal your gut to cure irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
6. Calm your immune system with vitamins C and D, fish oil, probiotics and other nutrients.
7. Follow a regular exercise schedule to reduce inflammation.
8. Practice deep breathing, massage, yoga and other stress-relieving techniques.
9. Discuss Functional Medicine with your doctor and encourage a therapeutic partnership.

Scientific Reasons Why Some People Get Cavities More Than Others

Some People Get Cavities More Than Others. Here’s Who and Why.

If you want a beautiful smile, one of the first steps is keeping your teeth cavity-free. To keep your teeth cavity-free, you want to take care of your teeth and keep yourself from becoming one of the people most prone to getting cavities.

Scientific Reasons Why Some People Get Cavities More Than Others

What are Cavities?

Whether you’ve never had a cavity or you’ve had several fillings in your life, you may be wondering what a cavity even is. It’s pretty simple: a cavity begins with damage to your tooth’s surface layer. This damage then spreads into a small hole that can spread even further into the deeper levels of the tooth if left untreated.

Who is More Likely to Get Cavities?

Anyone who has teeth can get cavities, and most people will have at least a couple of cavities at some point in their lives. Both younger and older people are the most likely to get cavities, but the fluoride that is now commonly added to tap water has helped reduce cavities among school-age children. At the same time, researchers are seeing an increase in cavities among senior citizens perhaps due to medications that cause a lack of saliva.

According to a new report by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of tooth decay among different ethnic groups varies. For example, tooth decay is most prevalent among African-Americans (46 percent), then Hispanics (36 percent), Caucasians (22 percent) and Asians (17 percent). One of the main reasons of this variation is difference in genetic pools:

“A new study found that a small percentage of African-Americans are missing a variant form of salivary protein that wards off cavity-causing bacteria,” David Silverstrom, DDS, at the Silverstrom Group, tells Yahoo Health.

Lower-income people are also more likely to have cavities, especially cavities that go untreated, likely due to having less access to regular dental care.

Sneaky Habits that Sabotage Your Smile

You may already know better than to munch on sugary foods too often since sugar is one of the worst culprits in causing cavities. What you may not know is that it’s not actually sugar’s fault.

The real culprit behind most cavities is the acid that sugar and other foods create. Any starchy carbohydrate or acidic food will cause your mouth to produce this acid. The worst habit for your teeth, then, is constant snacking on almost anything. Your mouth’s saliva is a natural protector against cavities, so constantly washing it away with food or drink will make cavities more likely to form.

How Cutting Corners Might Cost You More

If you wait until you notice symptoms of a cavity like pain, toothache or sensitivity, your cavity has probably been growing for a while. The longer a cavity goes untreated, the more intensive and expensive it is going to be to get it fixed. Untreated cavities can also lead to more serious complications like abscesses, infections or even tooth loss.

Dentists will be able to detect the beginning of a cavity before you would notice it yourself, so getting regular dental cleanings and checkups will help make sure your cavities get treated as soon as possible. This will help save you money and pain in the long run.

How To Reduce The Visible Signs Of Cold Sore

Cold sores are group of fluid-filled blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth. An outbreak of such sore starts with a tingling sensation and eventually a small cluster of blisters appears in the affected area.

How To Reduce The Visible Signs Of Cold Sore

Check the visible signs of cold sore and how you can treat them in just 8 days.

Day 1: Tingling sensation around your lips.

The first visible sign of cold sore is the tingling and burning sensation in the area where those blisters are about to form. Prevent the outbreak at its initial stage and treat when it itches you first.

– Apply antiviral cream as it alleviates pain.
– Try applying Zovirax antiviral cream as soon as you get the tingle. Continue using this cream for best result as it stops the virus replicating and treat it rapidly.
– Don’t scratch the infected area as this may provoke the virus to spread.
– Wash your hands immediately, if you have touched the infected area.

Day 2 and 3 : Swelling in the infected area.

The next day, the tingling area turns into a bulge that makes the condition even worse. Though the pain has been relieved, but the itch is still vibrating. The lumps appear white on the third day and this makes the sore more visible.

Keep applying the antiviral creams as it alleviates pain. Dab the cream on the top of lumps, but don’t rub it. Simply leave a layer of cream on the top of the area.
Prevent the sore from growing bigger this day. How? Here are the concerns you need to take care on this day. Check it below:

– Avoid squeezing the sore as this might delay the healing process.
– Use sunscreen whenever you go out during the daytime.
– Place ice-cubes on the sore as it helps in quick healing.
– Avoid acidic, salty and fried food as this might increase the pain.

Day 4 : Tingling Stops and Scab Appears!

Finally, on the fourth day, the itching sensation stops and you will notice a thick outer layer. Scab appears to be as skin color and so it is not very noticeable. How to deal at this stage? Here is the solution.

– Apply the antiviral cream around the cold sore, not on the scab.
– Don’t use water on the sore. Keep it dry.
– Avoid stretching and cracking of a scab.
– Don’t open your mouth wide as this may harm the sore.

Day 5 to Day 7 – Remove the dry skin and hard shell on the cold sore!

Scratching or cracking of scab leads to worse condition. It may cause bleeding and pain. How to deal with such condition?

The scab that has been developed on the previous day, should be taken a great care. Don’t allow the scab to crack until and unless the dry skin appears. Even avoid scratching of the infected area as this might stretch the scab to open. Try your best and keep the scab safe without any scratch or crack.

On the 6th day, you notice a dry skin around the scab and you need to remove the skin with the tweezers. Take a great care of the scab as you don’t want bleeding.

At the end of day 7, remove the scab gently through the water. Don’t remove the scab at once. First try to remove the top hard shell and let the area get dry. Leave the healing tissue that lies under the scab. When the area dries out, you will notice a new skin.

Day 8: Keep applying the antiviral cream!
Though the scab has been removed and healed, you still see those dry skin flakes. Remove it with the tweezers. Even apply antiviral creams as the area is still infectious.
It has been just 8 days and those painful blisters have completely gone. It’s better if you prevent the visible symptoms of cold sore and heal it quickly.

Brendon Buthello has a detailed knowledge in medication and prevention measure on contagious disorders. In this article, he focuses on how to treat the visible symptoms of cold sore quickly. Even he explains about how to reduce the healing process time and prevent the cold sore quickly.

What You Don’t Know About Vulvar Cancer May Kill You

Vulvar cancer is a type of cancer that occurs on the outer surface area of the female genitalia. If you’re uncomfortable with discussing genitalia, you should backspace now before it’s too late and we say something that offends you.

What You Don't Know About Vulvar Cancer May Kill You

Now, the vulva is the external parts of female genitalia, which includes:

The honey pot opening (also known as the birth canal); the honey pot is part of the reproductive system and extends from the uterus to the outside of the body.
The outer folds around the honey pot opening (working from the outside in, are the labia majora and the labia minora)

During a honey pot examination, it’s also possible to see the urethra, an opening that leads to the bladder, and the anus, the opening that leads to the colon.

Vulvar cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in those external parts of the genitalia. Vulvar cancer usually presents as a lump or sore on the vulvar area that causes itching that doesn’t go away. While this type of cancer can occur at any age, it’s most commonly diagnosed in older people. Treatment of this kind of cancer typically involves removing the infected tissues as well as some healthy surrounding tissue. Sometimes, the surgery requires removing the entire vulva. As with every cancer, the earlier it’s diagnosed the less extensive the surgery would be.

Other symptoms include:

Vulvar skin changes such as color changes or growths, sometimes with the appearance of an ulcer or wart
Thickening of the skin around the vulva
Bleeding that’s unrelated to periods (menstruation)
Vulvar tenderness or high sensitivity
Vulvar pain
An open sore on the vulva, particularly if it lasts for a month or more

As you can see, certain signs and symptoms that are indicative of vulvar cancer can be symptoms of conditions that aren’t cancer. The only way to be sure of a vulvar cancer diagnosis is to do a biopsy. A small piece of tissue from the suspicious area is removed and examined under a microscope. A doctor that specializes in diagnosing diseases via laboratory tests (a pathologist) will examine the sample to determine whether or not if cancer or a pre-cancerous condition is present.

Risk factors for vulvar cancer include having human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, having a history of genital warts or herpes, having intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN). While having a risk factor of a diseases increases one’s risk for infection, that isn’t a guarantee you’ll get cancer and neither does having no risk factors guarantee that you won’t get cancer. Talk with your doctor if you’re concerned about your risk.

A 5-Minute Routine To Strengthen Your Butt & Thighs

The past 10 years have proven to society that a small butt is no longer in style. Keep your booty tight while enhancing your physique with a few moves that will ensure your waist stays small and your butt looks better than ever. Statistics prove that only 15 minutes of exercise per day can extend your life for up to three years; only five minutes could add at least one year.

A 5-Minute Routine To Strengthen Your Butt & Thighs

1. Butt Enhancer
Lay down on a yoga mat or carpet, face down. Place your arms straight out before bending your elbows at a 45-degree angle. Your legs should be a little wider than hip distance apart. Raise your legs and your torso off the ground. Your hands should raise off the ground too, so you are using only your butt and your abs to raise your hands, arms, legs and torso off the ground. Hold for 10 seconds. Lower and repeat 10 times.

2. Kneeling Hydrant with Back Kick
Get into position on your hands and knees. Your eyes should face the ground, your neck elongated and your hands and knees shoulder and hip distance apart. Move your left knee to the side until your thigh is perpendicular to the ground. Your left foot should be flexed. Rotate your hip until you are almost in starting position, but instead of placing your knee on the ground, kick it straight back in the air. Repeat five times on each side.

3. Walking Mountain Climbers
Lay face down on a yoga mat or carpet. Do one push up so you raise your body into plank position. With your arms shoulder-width apart and your legs hip-width apart, pick your left foot up, bend your leg at the knee and place it in front of you, bending your leg into a modified squat. Return your left leg to the start position, and repeat the motion with the right leg. Keep moving your legs back and forth until for about one minute. Keep your abs and butt as tight as possible throughout this exercise—and don’t forget to breathe!

4. Get Your Butt in Gear
Start on your hands and knees. Keep your arms shoulder-width apart and your knees hip-width apart. Elongate your neck, and raise your head to look straight out in front of you. Extend your left leg straight back, and bend your knee. Flex your ankle so when you bend your knee at a 45-degree angle, the heel of your foot faces the ceiling. Push the heel of your foot as far as you can toward the ceiling. Keep your abs tight and your butt tight. Return to the starting position, and repeat this motion using the right leg and foot. Do five reps of each on each side.

Repeat these moves once a day to give your butt a tight but enhanced look. After a few weeks, you’ll have a physique that anyone would covet.

How To Get Rid Of Black Knees And Elbows Using Natural Remedies

Different people have different types of skin, and the thickness of the skin varies around the body. Some people may develop various skin conditions while others may not. Not all people will develop darkened elbows and knees, but some will.

How To Get Rid Of Black Knees And Elbows Using Natural Remedies

Here are some reasons why others have them and others don’t:

1. The skin on the elbows and knees may look dark because thick, dead skin has built up in that area.

2. Frequent friction; using that particular area of skin frequently, causes it to thicken and darken.

3. People with dark skin color will have darker elbows and knees; it’s in their genes.

4. Skin care protection is not enough in those areas. People concentrate more on the face, arms, and legs but often neglect the elbows and the knees.

5. Long and frequent exposure to the sun can cause further darkening of the skin.

6. Some medical conditions, diseases, hormonal changes and imbalances may actually cause more pigmentation.

7. Medication can also cause the production of more melanin which results in darker elbows and knees.

If you are one of those unlucky people with dark elbows and knees, don’t despair; it is a natural thing that happens to everyone, and it can be remedied.

The skin on the elbows and knees is usually thicker and has more folds. Plus, there are no oil glands in these areas; which causes this skin to be drier.

The answer to minimizing their unsightly appearance is by being aware of what we do with them every day.

1. Lessen activities using the elbows and the knees, to stop them from thickening.

2. Keep out of the sun as much as possible, or put on sunscreen if you need to go out.

3. When applying sunscreen lotions, apply less sparingly in those areas.

4. When taking health medications, check with your doctor about possible side effects on the skin.

Don’t worry about spending a lot on creams and skin medications to get rid of dark elbows and knees; remedies may already be found in your own homes and gardens.

1. Exfoliate – Use any exfoliating brush, pumice or loofah while taking a bath, to remove the dead cells from the knee and elbow.

2. Natural bleach – The juice of fruits like lemon, grapes, and tomatoes are natural bleaches; they help to get rid of black skin when used regularly.

3. Olive oil and other natural oils – Olive oil softens the rough skin on the knees and elbow giving it softness and smoothness. Rub warm olive oil to the knees and elbows every day for 10 minutes.

4. Aloe Vera gel – Aloe Vera reduces the sun’s damage by moisturizing the skin and preventing dryness which lead to darkening of the skin. Using the gel from fresh Aloe Vera leaves, apply the gel on the elbows and knees and leave for an hour.

5. Apply fresh lemon juice to your knees and elbows. Leave it on overnight, and wash it off in the morning.

What Your Finger Length Reveals About Your Personality

Although the human animal is far too complex to be reduced to a single characteristic, there are definitely trends that can be noted. One such trend has to do with certain physical characteristics and personality traits. Did you know that your finger length can describe your personality with astonishing accuracy?

What Your Finger Length Reveals About Your Personality

The Science Behind Finger Length

Studies have shown that people with a longer ring finger than index finger are exposed to more testosterone in the womb as a fetus. Testosterone, for both men and women, is the chemical that corresponds to aggression. However, it is also associated with other aspects of health such as susceptibility to disease as well as socioeconomics such as success at the workplace.

Finger Findings

People with longer ring fingers than index fingers have more testosterone. This equates to a more aggressive personality in life, which in turn equates to higher rates of success. Colloquially, aggressive personality relates to “charm” in many of the scientific studies that have tried to quantify certain personality traits. Individuals with this type of personality tend to become soldiers, engineers and executives. Even women with longer ring fingers tend to do better in the corporate workplace even though testosterone is not normally associated with women.

People who have longer index fingers tend to have a more introverted personality. They are described as self-confidence; however, they may not showcase this element of their personality in the same way that a “Type A” personality would do so. People with this type of personality tend to do better in jobs that require a great deal of time alone such as individualized stock market trading or affiliate marketing.

People who have index and ring fingers with approximately the same length showcase the same kind of balance in life as well. These kinds of people tend to avoid confrontation and have been shown to be more faithful in relationships. However, there are many other factors that dictate the overall personality that a person may showcase to the world. Do not think that you can simply look at someone’s finger length and determine what they will do in a certain situation!

How To Use Coconut Oil For Dry Hair And Dandruff

Many people suffer from dandruff in dry seasons during the year due to a scalp that needs proper nourishment and hydration. For those with dark hair, it can be a constant problem that detracts from the mane. Instead of experimenting with a long list of products that promise the relief of dry hair, coconut oil is a natural ingredient that offers a safe way to remedy the scalp.

How To Use Coconut Oil For Dry Hair And Dandruff

Soak the Hair for Two Hours

Coconut oil is a natural way to moisturize the skin without infusing the pores with chemicals and toxins. When wanting to add extra shine to your locks, soak the hair in five tablespoons of coconut oil. Gently massage it into the roots and into the ends of the strands while covering the head with a shower cap and allowing it to sit for two hours. Wash it out thoroughly in the shower with shampoo that contains natural ingredients and blow dry the hair to enjoy a silky treatment that can be used once a week to maintain the condition of your follicles.

Massage Hot Coconut Oil Into the Scalp

Dandruff can immediately be treated by massaging several tablespoons of hot coconut oil into the scalp, according to wwww.womenshair.about.com. This can sit for up to eight hours to allow the pores to soak in the natural oil. You can also mix the oil with two teaspoons of epson salt for an ideal way of exfoliating the dead skin cells on a damp scalp and removing them from the hair. The exfoliation should be performed in the shower and can be washed out immediately.

Mix Coconut Oil with Essential Oils

An itchy and flaky scalp can make for a constant irritation, but a mixture of essential oils and coconut oil is a simple home remedy that sooths the skin. According to www.homeremediesforlife.com, mixing a cup of coconut oil with four drops of cedar wood, two drops of ylang ylang, and one teaspoon of tea tree oil will allow nutrients to penetrate the scalp. Allow the mixture to soak into the skin for at least an hour for proper hydration of the skin. The treatment can be applied at least once a week to prevent dandruff from returning, especially during the winter months.

Brush and Cover

According to the www.thecoconutfrontier.com, coconut oil is currently touted as a product that can treat both dandruff in adults and cradle cap in infants. Brush the oil into the hair with a fine tooth comb and cover it in plastic wrap to damp hair. The plastic wrap will allow it to set and become absorbed while also working as a detangler during the week.
