We sometimes hear that the eldest children in a family are the smartest and have the highest IQ, this is a myth. IQ is not dependent on birth order but on genetics, gender, age, personality, family size, and parental age.

Swedish researchers have found a link between lower IQ scores and higher suicidal feelings. According to them lower IQ means less ability to solve problems which makes people less capable of dealing with mental stress, hence suicidal feelings may be more likely.

Dr. Scott Kaufman says creativity potential can be measured by IQ tests. Creativity involves thoughtful reasoning, innovative ideas, pattern detection, and learning, all of which are measured through IQ testing. The higher the IQ score, the more creative you are.

10. IQ tests were used to diagnose mental retardation
IQ testing is done to test intelligence level and career success, earlier it was done to diagnose mental retardation as well. As per Binet-Simon’s tests of IQ an IQ score below 70 was set as the benchmark for mental retardation, those with scores below 70 were diagnosed as mentally retarded. It was done to differentiate between the mental retardation and mental illness which was misunderstood in the 19th century.

11. IQ tests are culturally and ethnically biased
One of the main criticisms of IQ tests is that they show ethnic and cultural bias. IQ tests lack sensitivity to different cultures and religions, especially between Eastern and Western culture. It does not consider lifestyle, values, or other common traits.
