Almost all of us feel cranky or out of sorts sometimes. It can be caused by many reasons, a bad day at work, a heated argument with your family or partner, or even losing a football match are a few examples of what can lead to a bad mood. 1. Dark chocolate

Did you know that a tempting food like dark chocolate can help you when you feel cranky? Studies prove dark chocolates have the ability to reduce stress hormones and elevate your mood. A recent study conducted in Switzerland found that eating 1.4 ounces of chocolate when you feel cranky, reduces the hormones cortisol and catecholamine, which results in reduction in anxiety and makes you feel more relaxed.

2. Whole grains

Consumption of foods made from whole grains such as breads or cereals helps keep you happier for a longer period of time. When we eat foods made from whole grains the glucose dissolves into our bloodstream which makes us feel energized. Whole grain foods also lead to an increase in the brain chemical serotonin, a mood-enhancing chemical.

3. Green tea

It can happen that our bad moods turn into anger, and we all know what anger can do to us. Researchers say sipping green tea can help control anger. Green tea contains theanine which is responsible for keeping us calm and focused. Its also a modest source of caffeine which helps prevent angry mode. Its healthier than regular coffee with almost no side effects.

Much has been said about the health benefits of fruit, but did you know that fruit can enhance our moods? Fruits like oranges and papayas are a rich source of vitamin B6 and are also known as happy fruit. In studies conducted on people with depression it was found that insufficient levels of vitamin B6 were partially responsible for depression. These fruits, because of their pleasant fragrance, also help wake the senses.

5. Saffron

Saffron is a traditional Indian spice made from dried stigmas of the crocus plant. Its also popular in Spanish and Middle Eastern cultures. Its used to treat symptoms of depression in various medicine systems around the globe. Small experiments conducted in Iran, the world’s largest saffron producer, showed its positive impact on negative moods. It adds color and fragrance to food, both of which are important for food to be a mood enhancer.

6. Yogurt

Our blood sugar drops when we feel cranky or irritated. The most effective way to avoid this fall in blood sugar is to eat something regularly. Yogurt with berries and almonds is helpful for avoiding mood swings and provides sufficient energy to the body. You can add fruit to yogurt to make it more tasty and colorful.

7. Apples with peanut butter

Crankiness is not just a bad mood, it can be a sign that your body needs fuel, but whenever we feel hungry it’s important to find a combination of essential nutrients. Peanut butter with an apple is a nice combination food. It provides the body with healthy complex carbohydrates and healthy fat. This combination is tasty and gives you long-lasting energy.
