5-inch Worm Removed From a Man's Eye

Incredibly, a 5-inch live worm was surgically removed from the eye of a 75-year-old Indian man, PK Krishnamurthy.

He first complained of itching and irritation for about two weeks in his right eye before being seen at the Foris Hospital in Mumbai, shocking every one there, even the eye expert, Dr. V. Seetharaman, who defined it as “a writhing, threadlike parasite swimming around in the man’s eye.”
“It was wriggling there under the conjunctiva,” he told AFP. “It was the first time in my career of 30 years that I had seen such a case.”

After a rushed surgery, Krishnamurthy was out of danger and the doctors were able to remove the amazingly large worm from his eye.
Saraswati, the victim’s wife, witnessed the operation and claimed, “It just kept moving and jumping …it was scary for a bit.”

The patient was very lucky not to end up with the worm in his brain, stated Dr. S. Narayani, the medical director. They also sent the worm to the hospital’s microbiologist to try to reveal the root of this unusual case.
