Cataract: characteristics and treatment

Cataract is a change in the clarity of the lens in the eye and its clouding that causes a blurry eyesight. Most cataracts are related to aging and are it’s very common in older people. In fact, cataract is a gradual and slow process and it often occurs in both eyes. By the age of 80, more than half of all Americans either have a cataract or have had cataract surgery. There’re over 1.5 million cataract surgeries in the United States alone every year! You should note that people with cataract are often unaware of their problem and assume their cloudy vision is something normal.

The cause of cataract:
A normal lens constitutes from water and some clear proteins. As we grow older, these proteins alter and some new proteins -that are not as clear as normal proteins- gradually substitute them; and once they accumulate, the lens becomes cloudy.
